**** The Official Note 4 thread ****

The only issue for me so far is heat slowing it down. When it gets hotter it reduces the clock speeds and at the moment it does this even when just playing around with touch wiz. Doesn't bode well for gaming or Samsung vr does it...it's not being a fast phone if it down clocks when it gets warm.

For example after I changed from dalvic to art my geekbench n quadrant scores were halved for quite a while.

This is the first I have heard of heat issues with the note 4. Is it because you were benching it a lot? Were you in a hot environment?

Of course that happens, thermal throttling has occurred on all phones for many years now!

Samsung's dvfs is the cause its it not? Hence the reason why many ROM devs advise turning dvfs off via Xposed which results in smoother performance when running custom stock based ROMs.

I noticed it on the Note 3 too.

Are you running all the cores at full ballast?

That's the thing..this is just when browsing the net and messing around with touch wiz and it's in a cold room. I can't imagine how it's going to be in summer when running intensive programs lol.

Yeah they do throttle but Samsung's one is on a harsher threshhold. Again, this is why the DVFS disabler Xposed module exists.

I hope not lol. This was mostly when it was set to ART. Its back on dalvic right now and not as bad. I can still feel it quite hot though and this is without a case on aswell. Will give it a few days and see.

are there any good heat monitoring and cpu speed monitoring programs that show a live update on your screen at all times that you can download without rooting the phone
?

Battery monitor widget is always running on mine. Keeps log of temp and battery drain in mA.

Just to add, mines still on ART with no issues.

So what accessories are people getting?

Is there a decent tempered screen protector?

Anyone got an S-View case, is it any good?

Thanks im using battery monitor. Can you please post your temp when just on the normal touch wiz screen being idle....Would be good to compare.

Edit.. that only covered the battery temp. Could you check your cpu temp and let me know what its at when your not really doing anything on the screen.

I would be gratefull if anyone else could download the cpu temperature app and just leave it on that screen for a minute at the idle speed of 300mhz and tell me what the reading is... It would help to compare just to make sure my phones running as it should.

Very good indeed....but needs more bokeh.....

Been looking at the mobiles.co.uk again and seems the deal they have isn't that great anymore. Free phone, 1GB data, Unlimited mins and text for £38.00 per month (am guessing that £38 before vat right?).

2 questions....can you use an O2 Open code with mobiles.co.uk? Have one from work and it gets me 30% off my airtime portion of the contract, so really want to use it and 2nd......do I cave in now or hold out a bit and get the Edge when it eventually becomes available :D

Walked into cpw this afternoon and I'm now the proud owner of my Note 4.

Got it for 38pm for unlimited texts and calls and 4gb data on Ee.

Very happy with it from the half hour I've used it so far.

The deals currently on mobiles.co.uk for the Note 4 are rubbish, just like most the deals out there at present for the device. You missed out by a couple of days because they had the £38 deal for £28 a month. That was a good deal because we've since been able to increase our data allowance to £31 a month for 5GB instead of 1GB. That makes it a very useable contract.

I had an NHS discount code which I've been told doesn't work on the above tariff since I'm not on a 'refresh' plan. I'm just waiting to see if my cashback comes through because I've just sold my Note 3 (via gumtree within 15 minutes :D) and if the cashback goes through, it means I've picked up the Note 4 for practically nothing extra.

As for the phone itself, I've been using it this weekend. No slow downs, no lag, mine doesn't seem to be running hot at all. Feels much nicer in the hand than the Note 3, so if you can pick it up for a reasonable price then yes it's well well worth the upgrade. To the poster who asked is it worth £450 extra, definitely not! Keep an eye on hukd, another good offer is bound to pop up soon.

Makes for even more interesting times. Am currently on T Mob and due an upgrade.....tried O2 earlier but their website was parping out on me.

Will try again on Tuesday and see what is going down then
