lolwut?! The developers will not make different PS4 and PS4 slim SSD versions of their games

They wouldn't need to develop different versions of games for a hdd and ssd.

That aside, I could see in the future that the ps4 comes with an ssd as standard. It won't be anytime soon, but in 3-4 years I could see ssd as standard.

a new SSD drive to replace the standard HDD, in order to allow developers to optimize more easily their latest titles in full 1080p resolution, and other next-gen features

Whether it's a traditional hdd or an ssd has absolutely NO relevance as to whether a game can be run at a higher resolution.

Do some people honestly think if they were to add say a solid state drive to their pc that it would help them increase resolution or turn the effects up in games lol

"wow let me add an ssd, I'll be able to max out crysis at 4k res and it will give me 120fps"

Or better yet, with that logic all the xbox one needs to do is release a version with a built in ssd and that will close the gap in performance between multi platform games.

Why are people upgrading their gpus and buying 980s, when the answer is buying a new ssd....Infact I should add an ssd now to the ps4 so all my games can run at 60fps...

Watched my PS4 being handled with care at the post office as it as winging its way for repair back to Sony. The lady chucked it in a bag and I watched it hit the floor - ffs, why do Sony have to use the worst courier company in the UK - Royal mail!!

Ah well - up to Sony now to get it working and back to me - they quoted 21 days which means no Destiny for a month - I'm already beginning to shake and rattle lol

Guys this is probably a stupid question but I haven't used my ps4 much yet... Is there a free version of Drive club I can play, the one on the store just says unavailable because I already have a ps plus membership?

I keep on getting CE-34878-0 error and CE-36329-3 Errors on my PS4 the past few days...

Yesterday it kept happening so I did a complete initialise and reinstalled everything.

Today when playing fifa 15 the game stopped and error displayed...

Any ideas what to do?

An SSD can and does speed up texture swaps. On PC I also noticed fewer stutters.

Looks like garbage to me written by someone who doesn't really know what their talking about:

cant be true as most won't pay the ridiculous prices that PSN demand;

I pay the extra just because I like to run my PS4 off a HDD rather than listen to the disk spinning up. Hate noise personally.

user experience suggests that the difference is in fact minimal down to a few seconds difference to the standard drive.

No but dev's can use higher res textures. Those with SSD won't see the texture swaps, those without SSD 'may' see the odd swap or stutter.

I run my PS4 with a 840 pro, and it works a treat.

Erm doesn't ps4 install all games from physical media to the hdd? So buying digital or not, won't make much difference to the noise , only a few mins whilst it offloads data from the media.

Question (particularly to those who have put in Solid State or Hybrid drives):

Has anyone had their console power down (maybe due to power cut) while on then during intialisation had to wipe the drive?

My mate has had this problem twice now - both times when power went off while the console was on. I swapped my drive out but just to another HDD and have had the power go off and it simply initialises no problem.


I was wondering whether it's a faulty drive, a faulty PS4 etc - but it never happened to him before he changed the drive.

(not sure why he has so many power issues mind...)

Never had to wipe the drive on my SSHD mate. Couple of times when the power went off I've had to 'reinitialise the database' but never wipe it.

Never had to wipe my SSD either. I turned the plug off by mistake a few days back and it just did something and then was all back as normal..
