Commuters: Do you really 'listen' to your music?

I certainly am listening to my music when on public transport, its usually one of the best times to listen to new music without other distractions.

Aside from the sound of the train, the Tube typically isn't loud with other people because people commuting aren't talking to each other.

I generally don't listen to them, as others have said they're just there to block out the noise whilst I'm reading the paper. I find it hard to really listen to a song, as well as reading.

I also try to impress on my kids to actually listen to the words in songs rather than just the tune. A lot if stuff is mindless of course but some songs have quite profound wording.

"Daddy, what exactly does Lil' John want it turned down for?"
*Start twerking* "HE WANTS IT TURN'D DOWN FO WAT!"

I spend a lot of time listening to music as I am on trains, and on my bike a lot.

Sometimes I listen, other times its just a distraction so I don't have to look at others as much. :p

I listen to metal/rock/blues on my headphones on the commute but rarely listen to that at home on speakers. At home ill listen to dnb or dub internet radio. I get a constant in flow of new albums so always putting them on my sansa clip and listening to new albums. It is true at times can't hear it very well over the sound of the central line but it does help to shut up all foreign languages and phone calls on overland.

I usually switch between music and series that I need to watch (now its the winter season they have all started).

Even if I've ran out of battery on either my headphones or phone ill still wear them...

Can't have people talking to me... :p

I listen to music every day on the commute, love my B&W P5s. However I do have a tendency to listen to new music I really like repeatedly and a bit too much and end up hating it.

I listen to music on the commute always, blocks out the noise of the plebs :D.

I do the same at work for pretty much identical reasons (I can concentrate when I have control of the level of noise I have to listen to, some music also seems to aid coding/modelling).

However I do have a tendency to listen to new music I really like repeatedly and a bit too much and end up hating it.
I'm also guilty of doing this.

I definintely listen to the music and know exactly what I'm listening too.

It's just a bonus that it blocks out all the random boring conversations and announcements.

I generally listen to radio comedy to give me some hope for the day. The News Quiz, The Now Show, The Goon Show, Hut 33, Cabin Pressure, The Mary Whitehouse Experience, I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, Just A Minute, Dad's Army, Yes Minister, Yes Prime Minister, Monty Python's Flying Circus, John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme, I've Never Seen Star Wars, The Brig Society and so on. *That's just some of what's on my phone atm. 128gb micro sd cards rock!*

You get some very strange looks when you start laughing out loud for no apparent reason. But I do have some custom moulded IEM's that just happen to be just about the same colour as my skin.
