Firmware update for the Samsung 840 EVO drives out tomorrow

Quick question regarding this.

I ran the tool and it did indeed speed things up.

But I noticed the Firmware version has not changed, or at least that's what it says in Samsung Magician, should this be the case or do I have to run this tool every couple of months to maintain performance?

I believe the tool is a one shot deal. It updates the firmware and sorts out the data.

You shouldn't have to run it again and I don't think you can.

My firmware was updated from EXT0BB6Q to EXT0CB6Q.

Perhaps you've missed the single letter change.

Nice one glad they came up with this fix, Samsung make fantastic computer parts, always have.

Ahhh quite possibly I will go back and have a look at that thanks for the reply, appreciated.

Correct. You cannot. If you try it comes up like as if it had been completed. All steps checked with about/close.

Mine hasn't updated either even after refreshing magician :(

Did the restoration took an hour or so but doesn't seem to have done anything

If you look through previous posts in this thread, and the posts in the larger thread on this subject, you'll notice that the majority of benchmarks are done with HDTune v5.5.

If you did a before/after test with HDTune, you would notice a big difference. In actual use the difference in performance is not as large as the benchmarks suggest.

OK ran a HDTune benchmark

Look OK? Surveyor is getting excellent results from it. I'm on SATA 3 aswell so expected a higher burst rate.

Yeah I'm not gonna pay just to do a benchmark, I'm happy with how my drive performs anyway. Was just curious to see how good it actually is.

Just tried to do this on my new 840 thats in a dock connected via USB and it doesn't see the drive correctly

Assuming connected via sata to the motherboard is best
