Oh Dear!

Was just playing Dead Rising 3 on pc, when all the zombies started falling through the road and I ended up underneath the map....

Thought it was just a graphical hitch....

Then my pc crashed and restarted. Upon boot, I am greated withthe message, reboot and select proper boot device!!

In the bios my Mx100 has dissapeard!

Any ideas?

Ok, after powering down and leaving it for a while then powering back on, pc is fine.

Question is, did the game cause this or did my Mx100 just have a fit?

the game/pc crashing usually causes detection issues at startup, best leave it for a few minutes then it should pickup the ssd again

This happens to me on my dad's PC, exactly the same

I have no idea what happened, I was just thinking it was the SATA cable coming out but having read this now, I'm not so sure...

Personally I reckon the ssd disappeared whilst in game causing the graphical glitch because the game could no linger stream the data.

Then the PC crashed when it realised I had no HDD!!

If it happens again it will be time to RMA the SSD I think. :(

I don't think it does.

Shutting down the PC/laptop should be enough to allow the boot process to begin "as normal". Any previous "crash" should not prevent a HDD or SSD from being detected by the BIOS., unless the BIOS itself or it's settings have been interfered with.

It could be the drive but I'm just saying I've had bad crashes before and when the pc restarted it wouldn't detect the hdd,I'd have to leave pc powered off for longer or restart it again,Idk why it does it but I've had it happen

I had this happening about 2 weeks ago and couldn't figure out what it was. I could fiddle about with it and it'd come back, but would go again in about an hour.

I thought I'd give updating the firmware a go using another PC, which actually ended up fixing the problem. The PC has been on for a week solid with no bother or restarts.

I later found out that it was down to something called the 5200 hour bug, which when your SSD reaches 5200 hours of operation, this happens. But as above the firmware update fixes it.

That's only on the m4 drives though? The Mx100 drives do have a freezing issue on some boards but mostly they are fine

I had a freezing issue and drive disappear from the bios, with an crucial m550 and asus z77 chipset. Found enabling 'hot plug' in the bios for the port the ssd is connected to resolved the issue. Gotta be worth a go..

Sounds like the MX100 may have some issues.

The only time I`ve had a drive "vanish" is when the drive is faulty, apart from when there is a loose power/data cable. If it appears again after the system is powered down, then the drive has to be suspect.

Had a little game session today and no issues. Been fine since I bought the drive on release.

If it happens again, I will look in to returning it.

As bizarre as this may sound, I think the issue was Dead Rising 3. (It happend a second time, whilst playing this game)

I've read online that it has a variety of issues, and I wasnt having issues with the drive before and I have had some prolonged gaming sessions since and my pc hasn’t crashed.

So I’m putting the blame on Dead Rising 3.

Just for sake of mind , run it through crystal disk info or crystal disk utility to make sure it's healthy and has no errors of any kind .
