Does your partner approve of your hobbies?

I also get stick about my r/c planes that are in the attic still to be built from the other half. Actually bought a new motor for it a month or 2 ago. Now to get the controller working lol

Because I know I spend far more than I actually need to on my PC, but am trying to use it for more than FM2014 lol. To be honest I think she knows i spend a lot on it but a lot might be more than she thought. End of the day though using my money so don't matter to her.

If it's your money then why do you feel the need to hide the expense?

My response to that would be "sure, sounds like a good idea. When are you returning that <insert designer's name> handbag/jacket/boots/bracelet/etc.?".

Tiny bit of stereotyping there. My wife spends more money on bicycles than handbags!

It's strange how women seem to have fewer hobbies than men. My girlfriend has none that I can think of, other than having a big interest in fashion and make up and that sort of stuff. I like my PC, I like to mess around with electronics and stuff, mess around with my car etc.

She's fine with all that, though, as long as I don't do loads of it when we're actually together as we don't live together at the moment.

As long as you don't take the mick and spend all your time on your hobby and get some quality time together then I don't think there would be an issue. I know I spend a little too much time on the pc at times, but otherwise, going to the gym for example has never caused an issue as it's an important part of my life.

Plus this benefits her :D

I would say mine tolerates more than approves. I have two pc gaming and warhammer. Both of which take me upstairs away from her which is what gets annoying but it's all about balance so right now I'm not really playing my pc and trying to focus on getting this warhammer stuff finished since I usually spend Thursdays in town playing it or upstairs painting it right now I'm also spending at least one other night a week painting so I understand her issue. Ive tried to find a hobby for her as I think she would benefit from one greatly but nothing as of yet.

Thing is most guys seems to have something to occupy their free time with, whereas of the women I know, there seems to be a 60/40 split of those who have no discernible hobby, and those who do.

I always say to the missus that she needs a hobby. She doesn't have any that I can think of!

Not really, just based on my own experiences with my own GF ;)

Feel free to substitute your own appropriate expensive item into the response if the examples I've given aren't suitable for your situation. :p

My partner and I both love ultrarunning, which given some of our races recently have been 20 hours+ would be an issue if that were not the case.

Of my other hobbies, I don't spend a great deal of time gaming anymore, and reading or watching films are such socially acceptable hobbies that you're pretty safe with those.

When I used to build PCs or code in my spare time I've had girlfriends be less than keen ;-)

I do remember my missus getting a little jelly pop when i'd be building a new machine, as more time was dedicated to the hardware than it was to her.. (this is over the span of nearly 20yrs) I've sort of lost interest in PC's and gaming as a whole over the last few yrs. I just browse more these days. She used to say computers & tech were a bit sad, but now she's always on her FB and iPhone texting her female friends, so she's changed her tune a little.

My main hobbies these days are riding my motorbike or cycling, and she doesn't seem to have a problem with either, as it gets me out of the house for a couple of hrs on a Sunday morning. She may get a little irked, when i get back, and hop on a different bike for a second session. Especially as she's left to look after the kids.

The other half doesn't approve that our 3rd bedroom is my office/man cave whilst our two girls share a bedroom, a large bedroom that is, they're both 3 & 5. I know i'll have to give it up at some point but not letting go just yet :D

She doesn't mind that i'm a gamer because she gets time to herself to watch ***** on TV such as Casualty, Eastenders, Holby, Doctor Who, insert random american crap tv show etc etc ...

She doesn't approve of me being a biker and the way we ride ;)

I think part of the problem is that the way men spend their time is classed as "hobby time" whereas womens time is not in their heads.

Spending a day shopping or with their girlfriends doesn't count. Spending 4 hours an evening watching tv, playing on her iPad isn't a hobby, thats winding down after a day at work. I would wager that women spend just as much "me time" as men, they just spend it on very different things.

But guys have hobbies AND wind-down time.

Browsing, FB, youtube videos, TV shows and films, I do these but don't consider them hobbies.

Gaming, mixing/DJing, and baking are what I would consider my hobbies.
