Tim Cook officially comes out as gay

this is the missing link as to why gay people love Apple, I knew there was something going on, I just couldn't put my finger in it on it

"Great men are almost always bad men."

Jobs was an ****hole but I doubt you'll find many successful CEOs who aren't. Tim Cook seems to be geniunely likeable though.

Bill Gates managed it without being a ****, Jobs was on a different level

Off the top of my head... Larry Page, Michael Dell, Meg Whitman, Hurd and Katz, no idea, no idea, no idea, John Chen, Jeff Bezos.

I'm genuinely surprised more people here don't take a keener interest (he says having probably got a few of the above wrong).

Why? Most people, and quite rightly, don't give two hoots who the CEOs of tech firms are...they generally have more important things on their minds, like life...

For me Tim Cook is an Ice Hockey player, in fact I would be more inclined to accept that an ice hockey players 'coming out' is more relevant to combating prejudice than that of a tech firm such as Apple...given the relative incidences of acceptance of LGBT in sport as apposed to the relatively liberal ideologies in Silicon Valley.

I never was really interested in Apple anyway but after watching Pirates of Silicon Valley i actively avoided them.

Even in his biopic JOBS, the film tried it's best to put Steve Jobs in a sympathetic light but what a complete *******, and no amount of embellishing could remove what in essence is quite a vile man. I'm so glad I never have and never well give that company a single penny.

At last something we can agree on.

Why is this even news, I don't see stories such as xx comes out as straight....

Being Gay and Lesbian nowadays means nothing more to most then someone telling you they like cheese or chocolate.

Personally, I couldn't care less. That being said, I can potentially see the share price taking a dip if others start actively avoiding products because of this.

Tim Cook is the CEO of the world's most profitable company. He's often seen and quoted not only in the tech press but also in the general press. When he announces a new product on stage, the world's media is there to cover it.

He's someone who is highly influential, more-so than some world leaders. I'm sure that he could get an audience with Obama faster than the prime minister of Norway could.

...and yet, he is faceless, his quotes are added to things, he is referenced in his role, as himself, and no one has a clue who the man is.
We didn't know him, now we do.

So what...most people do not care that Apple is the worlds most profitable company...Which incidently it's not, that title goes to the Industrial And Commercial Bank of China. Do you know who their BoD are? Also, most people don't watch Apple press conferences, I read extensively and rarely see quotes attributed to Apple's CEO other than Steve Jobs and wouldn't know Tim Cook if I bumped into him in the Street. I would not care either.

He's hardly extraordinarily influential either, any number of politicians and world leaders are far more influential regarding world policies, as are many religious, cultural and social leaders, as well as philosophers, writers and musicians...not to mention celebrities and the such like.

You might know who he is, but it's no surprise that most others don't or simply don't care enough to remember who he is even if they have read his quotes or watched an Apple presentation.
