Apple Special Event. October 16, 2014

I've found using it tends to take a bigger hit in terms of battery life, but its standby is as good as always. Either way I currently have 10hours usage and 40% left. Will post a screenshot once its near death.

Battery life is definitely pretty poor (luckily not as bad as I first estimated or it would definitely be going back).

Usage since last full charge 20% for 1 hr 30 mins so a full charge would last 7.5 hours.
It's been charged 3 times in the 4 days since i got it - my knackered ipad 1 would have got away with 2 at most (though it also wouldnt have been used for the same things - it uses a lot less power for reading and surfing the net though... the two main things I used it for).
So is it good - yes - is it great - no. Personally I would prefer something better built with a longer battery life.

Having gone from an iPad 2 to iPad Air 2 I'm finding it pretty amazing.

The first iPad I've used (used every model over the years at work) that feels different and fair advanced to the iPad 1st gen.

You think ? :D

Meant vs the Air, the Air would not drop % as quickly while I was using it compared to this.

I'm not that bad, looking through that list I use every single one of those but managed to completely miss the 'claw.'

It's probably the best gesture too!

Ahh thats alright. I'm very curious so I always go through these things right away when I get a device :D. You would be surprised how many people have no clue about the gestures in general.

I'm sat here on 7hrs 7 minutes usage with 2 days 1hr standby and still have 28% battery left so seems pretty good to me.
This was mainly Internet browsing and some games.

Are you playing any graphically intensive games or something?

Have to admit this third charge is lasting much longer - though I'm not using it other than during my commute - weirdly it seems to be using more charge while doing fairly low intensity stuff like surfing than watching videos - maybe the wifi on this model is a bit more thirsty - oh well as long as it carries on ..

Jailbroke mine last night, some nice tweaks to play around with, mostly just want flux for night time, and themes which are still not ready for iso8. But I've just been installing any random tweak that sounds cool.

Im getting at least 12 hours out of mine and thats still with 10% battery left, ive used it for gaming (Clash of Clans) surfing the net, watching youtube and email.

Im impressed by it although it does tend to take a good few hours to charge back up to full which is slightly annoying but cant have everything :)

Does Apple do a mains power Lightning cable instead of the one that plugs from a usb into a plug, as my samsung usb charger that plugs into a plug was awful at charging so i bought a mains powered one which was much better, wondered if Apple do the same?

No.

It's the same thing, just without the detachable USB connection!

The detachable USb charges a lot slower though i presume its because USB can only carry a certain amount through it at one point or somthing like that where as my Samsung charger although it has the charger connector for the phone it charges the phone significantly quicker so its a shame apple dont do a lightning cable like that. if all that makes sense

USB/USB2 is officially rated at 0.5A, USB3 at 0.9A.

Which doesn't stop Apple throwing that away. Plug an iPad/iPhone into a modern Mac and it'll pull up to 2.1A from the computer ... which happens to be the same as the 10W iPad charger. (http://support.apple.com/en-us/ht4049)

As for Samsung kit, I've no idea. Never used one.

I had an samsung galaxy S3 for 2 years and after about a year it was taking ages to charge up (2 hours to charge up about 20-30% while not using it), at first i thought it was the battery but looking on Google and lots of others found it was the USB powered charger so i went and brought a charger that wasnt the USB detachable one and it charged up fine from about 30% to full it only takes between 1-2hrs, i just wondered if it was the same for apple but im guessing not lol

I have the option of purchasing an iPad through work so I'm considering buying the new iPad Air 2. It would be very handy for work, it has some really good apps on there which I can use.

I'm wondering whether to buy the 16GB version and use it just for work with the odd browsing here and there OR buy the 128GB version, in which case I'd want to fill it up with games and videos etc. I'm leaning more towards the 128GB if I'm honest but I have a few (probably very basic) questions as I've been with Android for a few years now.

To drag videos and different files to the iPad, do you still need iTunes installed on your PC? I previously (iphone 4 days) really disliked not being able to simply drag and drop files at will.

Does the iPad play different video files out of the box or is there an app you can install with the relevant codecs to play different video files?

I already have a Galaxy Note 4 with a 64GB memory card (soon to be 128GB) so I'm not after an android device. The iPad purchase would mainly be for work - the missus has an iPad Mini retina which I've used occasionally to test out the apps and the same apps simply arent available for android at present. If they were, I'd be using my Note 4 and I probably wouldn't bother with a tablet at all. The build quality of the iPad appeals to me plus the thinness/weight of the device and the high resolution screen. I just really disliked iTunes, and I'd prefer the freedom to be able to drag and drop different files on to the device without having to convert everything to one particular format. Is this possible on iOS?

Thanks.

If you can find the 10w usb power adapter (from apple) which was supplied with the older iPhones/iPods, then I find that the quickest way to charge up the device.
