United States Grand Prix 2014, Austin - Race 17/19

Meh DR does look a little erm, different.

However fair play to him for not giving a .... because if i was in his situation i wouldn't either. Paid to go racing... hmmmm what a life

So... anyone know of a bar in Copenhagen that will be/is likely to be showing the race, and preferably quali, live?

Grosjean in the press conference

Q: I understand you’re going to have another baby. So at the end of a difficult year a nice bit of news for you and your wife.
RG: At least that worked!

:D

Indeed, did make me chuckle :D

Video for those that missed it:

Vettel just told to box before the VSC with a probable gearbox issue.
Ricciardo with a ERS failure too...

Not looking good for Red Bull. But still better than Fauxtus. Grosjean with a de-laminating tyre and then later on a possible puncture or suspension failure.

DR only did 5 laps as he had a power plant issue, but he should be ok for P2.
They are having a safety car speed test now with no safety car.

No idea why RG seems to think he is better than Lotus...

He's a good driver and has been once he finally settled down in the latter half of last season. He clearly didn't adapt at all well to life in F1, but he's not the first to have taken a long time to find his feet.

It's a surprise in this day of instant success that he has been given as many chances, but he's responded well.

That Lotus is undriveable at times. I can't say I've ever seen a car as poor as that Lotus at the Australian GP. Apparently there is an inherent flaw in the car where it stalls the diffuser under braking, and they won't be able to fix it this season. It's the sort of flaw you'd expect with such upheaval over the winter, but it's why they've been fighting it out with Caterham and Marussia at times this season and why it chews up the rears. Lotus will be much better next year - though it's hard to expect them to be up to standards of 2012 or 2013 again.

Oh god...

Bernie saying that he wants 26 car grids but next year it could be 14 cars.
Engine regs don't work so they'll be changed in the post season.
Wants the noise back, sounds like he wants the V8/V10's back.

The sooner he retires, goes gaga and is sectioned or just shuffles off the twig the better now. Or even if FOM is held in breach of contract and the TV rights reverts back to the FIA who go with a 21st century savvy company.

It doesn't matter how much you try to look like Lemmy, Ricky-boy, you're still never going to get as many notches on your bedpost.

Ha ha, he's still a top lad having a laugh. I like that he isn't too serous about everything and just enjoying his fortunate life.

Well we have 18 cars with Sauber expected to leave and Force India seemingly doubtful and Lotus have been are far from secure for a year now. You need the team's agreement to get them to up their quota by 50% and not all teams will be able to fulfil it anyway. Teams like Williams can't just crank out another car and associated set of engineers and mechanics.

It's a delicate issue because there is no obvious fix to a very real problem. Add a third car and you've got podium lockouts, massive points differences or cars which float around without any real purpose (and potentially cause problems for teams which are racing for points) or cars which aren't on parity with the others (a year old) and thus a tiered championship. None of the fixes suits everyone, so you're relying on teams all agreeing to something which might be detrimental to their interests or you've got a small grid. In the end, we all lose out.

And you can't change the engine spec this late. Exhaust or something might be possible, but the very nature of the regs is what stops the volume of the noise. And any change would drive up costs further.

F1 has found itself in a horrible position entirely of its own making and with no obvious fix.

We'll see if he's quite the lad when the title is up for grabs. Vettel was jovial and a firm fans favourite before 2010. Ricciardo probably won't change too much, but you just don't know when the pressure mounts. It is refreshing to see the odd driver seemingly being themselves though, and that smile lights up every paddock. :D

Omg that hybrid thermal camera is brilliant!

I hope they don't apply it to the rear shots though, or mix it up a little. Seeing the plume and other thermal hotspots is more interesting and separates F1 from most other motorsports rather than just watching a tyre heat up where you'd expect a tyre to heat up.
