Zoe Quinn: GamerGate must be condemned

never even heard of this but i think sicne the late 90's its always been obvious the big gaming mags always positively review **** games from the big companies cause they depend on pre release copies to exist.

ironically because people only buy the magazine if it has reviews of games before release, even though they know the review is ********.

You know if we just armed the feminist rebels and let them fight for themselves, maybe with support from airstrikes, they would smash the patriarchy in a couple of months.

Wait, gamergate is an organisation? I thought it was just a thing. A word that encompassed the general kerfuffle. Which side of the argument needs to be condemned? Neither side comes out of it particularly well, I think.

All this boils down to is feminazis jumping on the gaming industry and trying to suck all the fun out of it.

The gaming industry was created by men, for men, and it's still mostly men who play video games, that's the undeniable truth. Women have only jumped on the bandwagon en-masse over the last few years, along with "nerd culture".

The following image sums it up nicely:

Now, when can gaming get back to being about gaming, and not about who feels offended by pixels?

This.

Zoe Quinn had sex with 5 guys in order to get good reviews on her absolutely awful "game" depression quest. However all news media are on her side.

For some reason loads of feminists got involved now because nobody was paying attention to them...

Game publishers buy chart positions in stores. And I'm sure pay for glowing reviews. In a predominantly male based industry, a male publisher offering sex for a review probably wouldn't go down too well. Swings and roundabouts.

The trolling is sick and twisted and I loathe the amoebic humans that partake.

So basically what you're saying is that there's no evidence that Zoe Quinn slept with journalists in exchange for favourable reviews.

There is no evidence either way. What i am saying is the BBC does not prove that wasn't her motive. - it doesnt even try to yet Tunney claimed it did.

Seems she is allegedly trying to silence her ex boyfriend in the courts now

I think also this gives a good overview of what happened

Also i think the fact that her awful game got good reviews shows something is seriously wrong with the people who reviewed it or they are on the take in someway.
That is evidence enough for me.

I find it quite funny how certain members of the gaming press will go into full SJW mode in her defence but over the past few years every big Ubisoft story has had a massive picture and then loads of more Jade Redmond. You can't have it both ways. I don't see them plastering pictures of Molyneux or Braben everywhere they plaster pictures of the actual games.

She isn't right wing, she's a Democrat.

If she's a democrat, why has she written a manifesto for conservative women? Why does she talk to regularly at Republican events?

The majority of PC gamers are female. There has always been women in the industry. There have always been female games players.

There's a perception that all gamers are spotty basement-dwelling teenage boys but that simply isn't true. Unfortunately, large games publishers still target that market almost exclusively. It's no surprise that female gamers are now asking for better representation for their gender in mainstream games.

No-one is trying to make games less fun, unless you're the kind of person who can only have fun through the objectification of women.

We can't view the research though...

Who did they ask?
What do they class as a PC game?
Did they ask how long they play?

The article even states:

...including social (Facebook, Kongregate)

So if you play Farmville once a month, you're a PC gamer?

If you look at AAA titles, the ones feminists complain about, you'll probably find they are mostly played by males.

There's a follow-up post on the the market research organisation's website.

It asked people to self identify, just like I'm sure you self-identify as a hardcore gamer. Any game played on a PC was counted as a PC game.

Joystiq have posted a table from the report explaining who they asked.

If you look at AAA titles, the ones feminists complain about, you'll probably find they are mostly played by males.

Depends what you count as an AAA title. Is Mario Kart an AAA title? Is World of Warcraft? Is Mass Effect? Is Zelda?

And, yes, games targeted exclusively at teenage boys are played less by female gamers. Hardly surprising.

Return of Kings is a website for Men's Rights Activists. Guess what? Another right-wing anti-feminist organisation with no actual interest in gaming. I feel sorry for anyone who genuinely cares about ethics in journalism. They've had the wool pulled over their eyes.

But it's not just about ethics in game journalism, since they fought back with unfounded accusations of sexism.

If everything written by returnofkings.com can be dismissed because it's MRA, then Zoe Quinn can also be dismissed because she is a feminist.
