United States Grand Prix 2014, Austin - Race 17/19

Rubbish. Kids are interested in it, F1 is just terrible at promoting itself. I expect most people won't know F1 cars are hybrids. Hardly anyone will know that they are using 30% less fuel yet going faster.

Young adults know that they are slower over a lap. If they was interested in straight line speed they would watch drag racing.

Just caught up on the principal press release.
And lotus guy needs to be promoted to head of fia, he talks far more sense than any other principal or anyone else.

And those of us not deliberately misrepresenting the facts to try and make an argument know that the reduction in lap time is due to a reduction in down force.

Next up you will be comparing wet lap times with dry ones and claiming F1 2014 is 20 seconds slower than 2013 again...

I wasn't the one who said they was faster, you did which is wrong. I'm just stating a fact.

I just said 'faster'.

USA 2014 P1 331.4kph
USA 2013 P2 315.1kph

You pretended I said something else to fuel your own agenda.

Edit: Crikey!

Italy 2014 Qualifying 353.9kph
Italy 2013 Qualifying 340.4kph

Thats a fraction under 220mph! Speedy.

As I said the lap time is slower. So not faster ;)

What you mean to say is "todays F1 cars are faster in a straight line" "but they have a slower lap time"

What I meant to say is what I typed, thats why I typed it.

You just want it to mean something else so you don't look like your deliberately trying to cause arguments, again.

How can they be faster if the lap time is slower? No wonder young adults have no interest in F1. "it's faster but slower"

They have to beat a 1’35.657 to be faster here.

Less downforce. Faster in a straight line but what good is that when overall the lap time is slower.

Which is only useful if you're at Spa and Monza. Or is it… Remember Red Bull at Monza a few years back? They put on more wing but bouncing off the rev limiter for ages but were quicker through the corners.

Ok then, lets play it your way...

Find me any measure of speed or fastness or lap time or car performance you can that is 30% worse this year than last year.

Go.

If he's right, why has Jenson and Lewis and many others said the cars have a lot less downforce… You can't have lost so much aero and gained so much mechanical. The Turbo's ain't that fast.

I will agree to disagree going off my own experience of the people I know and work with. I have a nephew who likes and watches F1 regularly and that's it. None of my other family/friends or work colleagues kids are remotely interested in f1. It's hard enough to find adults interested in the sport to want to have a discussion let alone kids that should be the future fans.

Is that a new thing, or have they never been into F1?

As much as we all love it, F1 is a minority sport, as is all motor sport really. F1 is just currently showing an extra special inability to bring in new fans. There is a complete lack of understanding on how to engage with a technologically savvy audience.

What's going on with Mercedes? 5th and 18th?

Edit: ah, I see Rosberg is just trying out all his "overtaking" lines...
