Teacher stabbed to death at Leeds high school

The judgement was fair - life in prison, no chance of release before 20 yrs where he will no doubt be reassessed by everyone and their dog and if there is even a hint of him still being a psycho he will stay locked up - basically the chances of him ever being released are massively slim.

So not life in prison then. The biggest mistake people make when talking about minimum tariffs in sentencing is the assumption that public safety is the only consideration when determining whether to release someone or not. You've also got to factor in the offender's human rights and how much it costs to keep him locked up.

Public safety should not be the only consideration, just a key one - if we only considered public safety then locking up somebody for assault until they die would be completely logical.

This difference in view pales in comparison to the ignorance displayed on both the causes of crime & the best methods of rehabilitation which are both utterly lost on the idiotic reactionary public.

more of my tax money down the drain, what a waste.. this one act of complete evil has cost a life, a family's life a schools generation of kids damaged and now hundreds of thousands of pounds in the process.

Having said that broken homes make broken minds.. tragic all round and thankfully rare.

If you are willing to accept a mental health explanation then you also need to be willing to accept that his brain will have formed to such an extent now that no rehabilitation is possible whatsover. Just worth thinking about when you take things down that line.

Because people with mental health issues never recover?

It's a possible outcome.

People should be released when they are no longer a danger to society & if rehabilitation is possible, for some that may never happen - others sooner than the traditional mandated sentence. The difference is it's based on reason as opposed to the the idea of vengeance, along with accepting that rehabilitation is more likely to require drugs, therapy & a medical perspective as opposed to simply 'lock him up, he will learn what he did was wrong'

It has been explicitly stated that he did not come from a broken home.
He was just a psycho.....
Because if he had been sexually/physically abused or suffered severe neglect in early childhood the perpetrators would most certainly be coming forward in the name of honesty.

Also, when you say 'psycho' do you mean psychopath? - a physical condition of the brain with known triggers, causes & genetic predispositions?.

I think the professionals are pretty good at their job of assessing this and if they have clearly said their were no triggers from the home then il take their word for it.

This guy cannot be rehabilitated, Capital punishment should be bought back for this type of person.

Personally, I think that only terrorists should get capital punishment. For the guy who killed the teacher and we know it's 100% certain, then I think he should be sentenced to exile. No taxpayer's money down the drain from a 20-years-to-life custodial sentence.

Even better idea. Bag them, tag them and push them out of a plane over Syria with nowt but an unloaded AK, a couple of magazines and a "good luck".

With the specific pattern they are suggesting there then the development of the brain or lack of in this case would not be able to be overcome or circumvented. Naturally, with other disease processes this need not be the case. The fact here is people are saying this is too much for a child - too long for a child but the fact is neurologically speaking and that is what is driving the behaviour this lad is an adult and one who has anatomy that is never going to be realistically altered by a few group hugs. If they had got him 10 years earlier maybe but they've just cut all services for the young age ranges - well played Cameron!

It was said there were no known triggers, this is not the same as no triggers.

I think it would be more likely he would pin the blame on his parents/family/perpertrators if they had done something.

Triggers that develop such problems are often much more subtle than a traumatic event. Lack of social empathy could be learned from a father who spent his free time gaming on a PC rather than interacting with his child. Do you think it is a coincidence that when the family unit is more isolated than ever that we see more and more people unable to socially interact. People who learn the rights and wrongs of interactions from media, games and films without the counterbalance of helpful real physical social interaction.
