Queen Elizabeth murder plot foiled

Not at all, just that property/land ownership before our democratic system was implemented should not be recognised.

To imply that we have to abandon all modern ownership rights because we reexamine historic claims is simply false.

And who do you give this land to?

It's an unworkable position and would tear up statute and rights that we enjoy in our democratic system, particular as due to our democratic (constitutional Monarchy) system those rights exist at all.

I understand your perspective, but also understand that the ideal is rarely the utopian solution it appears to be, and is more often than not the opposite.

Oh so the Queen can't have property because of what her ancestors have done but a select few investments banks whose recklessness caused a global recession can happily buy up property, from their still considerable bonuses, from the poor sods who have lost their jobs because of the recession. Yep, that sounds fair to me!

Needs?

I do see why people question it though. They're just a symbol of the UK and don't actually do anything except consume tax payers money!

The monarchy of the UK, Great Britain and England through the ages is some of the most fascinating reading. Some good, some bad, some brutal, some downright savage.

Personally, I am a fan of Queen Elizabeth II and in an age of eggshells and PC, Prince Phillip is a national treasure. Prince Charles is a thoroughly decent man who has contributed massively to conservation, environmental projects and some may remember he donated a tidy sum to help with flood relief in Cornwall a few years back.

Princes William and Harry are the modern faces of the Royals and Harry has shown he isn't a one to wallow in wealth and do nothing. He has put his life in danger with tours of Afghanistan. I'm sure William would have done the same if his second in line to the throne didn't bar him.

I'll take the above over a ceremonial president or republic any day and it's undisputed that the Royals bring in more than they cost.

Here here.

As a filthy forriner, I love the monarch and the loyalty of the British people to it, regardless of the finances involved. Many folks don't seem to realise how well they have it, or what a huge part of the British image the royal family is.

I'd go so far as to say that at least half the non-British population of the world thinks of the Queen when thinking of Britain, and considerably more know about the royals' existence.

Getting rid of the monarchy would be a grave mistake, the effects of which would continue for generations.

TBF most people that campaign against the monarchy are just jealous they weren't born into that life. They are usually the same people that campaign against inherited wealth.

I'm sure there would be a lot more support for these terror plot if they target a few in parliament.
And no I don't condone violence in anyway, just saying.

And how do we then cascade that to present day? If you don't recognise the sale of a plot of land from a Lord to an ex-tenant 300 years ago then all subsequent sales of land must also be null and void.

Or does this only count to the monarchy and crown estates?

Especially as a president would just be further padding for politicians to feather their nests...

The amount of taxpayers money wasted on their security details alone makes them a burden on society.

Yet it would probably stay about the same for an elected president, especially if we followed the system that the U.S. does of protecting former presidents as well...

That's the problem with many of the anti monarchists ideas. Thy don't appear to realise that many/most of the costs associated with the royal family are "fixed" costs. Upkeep of the head of states residences (most have at least two, even the prime minister does), security costs, official travel/state business costs. All will stay broadly the same no matter whether we have a monarch or a president.

I wonder how many ex-Presidents and serving Presidents, in more recent times, have allowed both of their lads to enter the armed forces and actively go within harms way.

While your motivations may be driven by such base desires don't automatically assume everybody else is as void of integrity as you are.

I'm going to hold off making any comments until this is reported by other news organisations...

It was reported on the BBC yesterday or the arrests were at least + an alleged link to remembrance day.

10 people from the area already fighting in Syria... we have got some fairly serious issues with fundamentalist Islam in this country.

Yet people complain about council housing, the monarch and her inbred family live in the most expensive social housing In the world. Don't you all want to be citizens instead of subjects?

Lots of people have more material wealth than me. I'm not jealous about it.

As for the whole citizens vs subjects, what difference would that make to me?
