Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Hmm I found this interesting coming from SHG

"SHGames says Advanced Warfare runs on both dedicated and listen servers, details upcoming fixes

Also, we've been asked several times about the status of dedicated server support. Activision shared this statement earlier this week:

Advanced Warfare employs game servers hosted at data centers globally on all platforms and listen servers as part of our proprietary matchmaking system. Our goal is to ensure the best possible connection and greatest gameplay experience regardless of location and time of day."

So you'd rather have 11 other people get lag compensated and your bullets not register over just one guy getting host advantage?

We'd all rather have dedicated servers but we know we'll never get them.

True but that one guy thinking he's amazing at the game because he always has host is so annoying. Used to remember YouTube videos of people who thought they were great at mw2 but it was obvious they were host. The advantage was crazy.

I always wondered why most of the time I sucked but every so often I would go absolutely bacon. Maybe this is why?

Changing to game mode on my TV, has made such a big difference to my playing now! Actually enjoying it. Who knew input lag made that much of a difference!

I'd guess it's the lag compensation. The better your connection the worse it gets in my experience.

Surely lag comp should not pull my connection to red bars.....I want to enjoy this game but how can I when that's happening to me.

They really need to take this lag compensation out of the game.

I believe it's the lag comp. It's caused issues in the past few COD releases. I even remember it getting a tweak on MW3 and it improved it LOADS then they tweaked it again and it went **** up.

The lag comp tries to help people with bad connections but they just can't get it right. They need to go back to the old MW2 way and just pick the guy with the best connection for host and if you live in a remote area in Romania and have a crap connection it's tough ****.

So much wrong information there it's quite astounding. "lag compensation" does not punish people with good connections or help people with bad connections. That's just rubbish that people who think they know what they're on about say on Youtube videos.
If lag compensation wasn't in this game then it would be completely unplayable by everybody but the host.
People have picked up on the term "lag compensation" and so use it all the time. Even IW stated it as "lag compensation" so people would understand.
Really they just need to tweak the netcode.

I really don't think its lag comp in this game I just think the connection and **** servers are having problems ATM

That's what it is plus bad match making. As this game seems to insist in throwing us into lobbies with people from all over Europe then we're going to struggle.
They need to bring back search options and allow us to select "local only".
And dedicated servers would be nice. Even though I don't think COD needs them it's better than being at the mercy of another players connection.

My biggest gripe with this game is the spawn system. It's rage inducing. In just one game earlier I spawned in front of a player on the other team at least 8 times

Yeah it would be, your hits won't get registered or will be compensated for, while the guy cheaping it out on 512mb internet and a wireless g router will be getting all the kills. That's how lag comp works. It's a terrible idea and i say screw the guy that has a rubbish internet connection. If he's having a bad time he can sort his connection out, why should everyone else have a bad time because he's unwilling/unable to get a better connection?

Latency is the problem not speed, and the people with problems are probably limited by their ISP's network not being very good, or are living out in the sticks on satellite or poor performing ADSL connections or similar, i.e. they probably aren't choosing to be on a connection that causes your gaming experience to suffer.

Food for thought

So you're saying lag compensation doesn't help or hinder people yet you say if it wasn't in the game then it would be unplayable? So surely lag comp does help then? I think you have some misinformation of your own.

So lag compensation is part of the netcode then? So is it not possible that it might help a person more than somebody else? The days of super host on mw2 are long gone and to me it looks like lag compensation for everybody has taken its place.

On Virgin Media 152Mb here and lagging and rubber-banding around all over the shop. This lag compensation is an utter joke.

Same here

And i have the Brand new Asus AC87U Router and playing on a 46" Sony W905 in Game mode (one of the best tv's in the world for input lag)

This whole lag comp is a myth, few of my friends barely have 1mb and they suck, I have decent Internet and always have a decent K/D.

If you play poor you play poor, no point blaming the Internet connection. The other guy was just better.

No lag comp doesn't help or hinder people but it NEEDS to be in the game. EVERY single MP game has lag compensation. It's needed. I'm not technical enough to be able to explain what it does. Here is an explanation

The problem with COD at the moment is bad match making and host selection. Going back to MW2 you would mainly have a lobby full of English people when you played so the game would pick an English host. Now it seems to be full of Europeans(And mainly French) so the game picks a European host(and usually somebody that is French).

It is using a skill based matchmaking system, and not caring about latency so much. I'm playing against lots of high level players, and never played a COD before. Havent had many problems with latency myself just struggling against the really good players, but I'm not bothered about flawed skill measures like K/D.

IMPORTANT: Although you might have a premium connection and you're experiencing very little ping, you also have to consider that it might be other people that are lagging. It doesn't matter what side lag is on. If one person is having trouble communicating their position with the host is can cause problems for the whole lobby and give the impression that you're lagging as well

This is what I'm getting at. I'd rather have the old mw2 way so if you had a bad connection you'd be the one that suffers, not everybody else.

I agree with that. But, like I said, lag compensation doesn't penalise you if you've got a good connection, it just means a few laggy people in a lobby will make a bad experience for everybody. I also agree with what you said earlier about preferring one person to have an advantage(the host) and everybody else be on a level playing field.

But I still think match making is main issue. I don't want to play in lobbies with French, German and Italian people because it'll never be a good match.

The sound on Advance Warfare is terrible , when your running sounds like you are on a horse , all the guns sound the same and no different , poor show , reminds me of Black Ops II

Campaign was surprisingly good, with an interesting story, but multiplayer is rubbish. Boost jumping and ground dashing (i.e., normal jump + L3) makes playing on a controller a PITA (not in being able to use the moves, but in killing people using them), and the design on the maps has made it really difficult to deploy any strategy. I don't know about anyone else but most games I just feel like I could be shot from anywhere at any time. And they also feel overpopulated because you encounter people every few seconds it seems.

IMO, they've made the same mistake Dice made with BF4 in making the maps too 'vertical'. I think the best examples of FPS games are ones where you're mainly dealing with enemies on a horizontal plane (e.g., BF3, MW2, CS:S).

I watched the latest Thunder video and he said the same. They need to get rid of the skill based match making as it's ruining the experience for a lot of people, me included :p
