Recently it's gotten really slow on wifi. Wired it as it always has been.

Wanting to check the best setting I should use, what are they?

Current versions of Asus firmware have been pretty poor due to FCC restrictions and Asus being lazy.

Try this forked older version instead, been pretty popular recently and works well: http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=18914

Will involve a factory reset and reconfiguration unfortunately. Merges some of the latest changes and updates so you aren't really missing out compared to the newer versions (aside from some of the web interface eye-candy).

Little confused ready some this. They talk about setting the wifi to 1w which be sweet. Is this a case of click and done or need to enter code?

Could be but could also be interference from something else. Worth trying several different channels if you haven't already done so. Also worth testing in close proximity to the wireless access point as it should then hopefully be 'louder' than the interference. If still slow then it could be faulty. Best way to be sure would be to test at a friend/relative's house just to rule out interference.

Whats the latest Merlin version? I have 374.43 although it's perfectly fine

EDIT: RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_376.47_0

OK so after popping to my brothers for a coffee and browsing twitter via my mobile on his crappy o2 router the pictures load instantly and internet seems snappy all round

So I think my RT-N66U is not performing correctly, if I put the latest Merlin firmware on later do I have to update it >> reset with pin >> add all my details back in again or is a config save and restore OK to do on these once updated and hard reset :)

Thanks

This is the very latest version

Make note of all your settings, copy and paste to notepad

Download the above and flash it

Reboot the router within the software

Reboot the router with a power cycle, off wait 30 seconds then back on

Option to restore settings, do this. It will go to full factory defualts here, clearing all the memory and any issues

Copy settings from notepad over and done.

It's still not right for me. I got a feeling BT have done something too my white box

I don't personally rate the latest Merlin, try what I did and go back a version - seemed a lot more responsive for me despite a lot of people having no issues on the latest.

Make sure you throw a 30-30-30 reset in there!

Let me know what you find with it

Made the change this morning so will test over the next few days, sure the wife will tell me if its worse, she normally does :)
