Sell me one of the two consoles

Hi guys. Not posted much in here for ages as I don't own a console anymore. However things may change in the new year.. fingers crossed.

Currently I play games on my PC. Warcraft, Sims4 and a few other management games, nothing too action packed.

I have a Full HD LG smart TV, Sony BluRay player (oldish), 7.1 HD audio surround amp and a subscription to Netflix (never watch normal TV at all) and I stream 1080p (DTS MA and Tru DD) movies from my PC using Plex media server installed on PC. I also have the Plex app for my LG TV called Playx/z or something like that that has a nice front end for browsing shows and movies on the TV.

Now.....

My question is this. Even though I have a BR player and stream from PC to TV - I am looking for, maybe to upgrade my BR player AND my AMP* next year and thought what about a console as they are both BRay and Smart and capable of playing games if the need arises. Best of all worlds really. What would you guys suggest?

I like games (on consoles) such as GTA, Forza, Gran Tourismo and occasionally the likes of CoD and other FPS.

Granted, I presume both consoles will do what I am currently doing with the added gaming benefit. So what would you do? Is it worth adding a console to my media solution and have it all streamlined?

*Amp upgrade reason: No ARC. So have that extra cable into the tv that carries the sound to the amp... I don't like it. Having everything streamed/played from console removes that cable and saves me switching inputs on TV when I want to use Netflix etc..

get the one you want, other people will always be bias against one or the other. the games you list are on both, apart from forza (xbox) and gran turismo(ps4)....... which do you prefer/which do your friends have.
 
Disregarding the games.... Do they both offer dd5.1 on Netflix and supports HD audio and capable of handling 1080p streaming via the pc? via an app or basic network connection?
Edit: my TV handles everything that is thrown at it.. streaming wise..
 
It's all about the exclusives: e.g. you want Halo/Forza or Uncharted/Gran Turismo?

Other than that they're close enough to not make any difference. Although the PS4 is slightly more powerful.
 
I would go for whatever most of your friends are using as that makes the best experience no matter what the console.

All major games like gta will always inevitably end up on all platforms though each platform has its own group of phenomenal exclusives.

Best to keep it simple otherwise yourself and Kitch etc would turn it into another car crash thread :) Even when I keep it simple you still have to leap in :)
 
This always ends up in tears...

Just look at the existing games and upcoming games for each console and make your decision based on that.
 
What do your mates play on?

I prefer PS4 personally, but most of my mates have them so we can get our game on together. I find the exclusives better on PS4 (wait until the next God of War changes the game baby!) as well.

PSN often has issues though, at the most inconvenient times. The controller is rubbish compared to my old PS3 controllers. Those babies were squashed, dunked in beer, flung, covered in ash, you name it. Clean them up and off you go.

I'm already on my second PS4 joystick, a trigger broke off when I stood on it. Just generally I find the quality inferior to the old ones, although I can't comment on the Xbone's controllers.

PS4 plays BluRay. Xbone might do this, I don't know, but keep that in mind if you enjoy the odd bluray.

The sharing feature is great.

The whole resolution thing. Don't forget about those precious pixels, which have been killing Xbone owners' brain cells since the damn thing launched. I've only heard bits and pieces but apparently the Xbone only does 900p or something, you may want to look in to that.

Can't think of anything else really. I've only got a PS4 so take my comment with a pinch of salt but these are a few points to take into consideration :)

Disregarding the games defies the entire point of buying a games console really. It sounds like you're more concerned about media features; the Xbox is the better of the two at this but I wouldn't be spending £300+ on either of them to use as media centres, when there are a variety of cheap dedicated devices that can do the job far better.
 
No need to get your panties in a twist Mr Shock Horror, was just trying to help. I couldn't give a toss which console is better, just offering some insight.
