Glastonbury. What's it all about?

I was dragged to Glastonbury festival in 2010. I enjoyed it. Won't go again, however. It's a lot of work getting your stuff in and out.

It's more than the music. The experience, the atmosphere, whatever you want to call it is great. Everyone is laid back. Food isn't that pricey at Glastonbury. The organisers pride themselves on this point. They use local providers only and they don't do the whole corporate sponsorship/exclusivity thing so you won't get ripped off for a coke with no other options like you do at V or the like. Yes, it will be cheaper in Tesco or McDonald's - but Tesco/McDonald's isn't a shop in the middle of a dairy field, in mud 2 feet deep, and with no power lines - so of course it is more expensive.

I don't do drugs, and I don't drink alcohol much any more either so I was sober the entire time and I can just sum the entire thing up as thoroughly pleasant.

I've been to Glastonbury about 12 times and it's a **** commercial fest these days. Back in the day there were mini rave tents everywhere, drugs were as common as glasto mud and the vibe was a lot more laid back hippy like rather than the posh, iphone flashing £100 wellington boot wearing people that flood the place these days. Ever since Micheal Evisis's daughter Emily took over she just completely ****** it up.

I first went to Glastonbury 22 years ago (god I'm old!)

My first one was in 1980 when I was 22 :D

Anyway, everything that Raymond Lin said.
My daughters are typical young women who are clean and always try to look good but they've been to about 4 festivals a year since they were 16 and just love the mucky side of it and the music comes way down the list.
It was only this year I first saw their 'wee' tent because it was in the way of my bike.

It's about getting wasted (Legally of course) & listening to untold different live music with like minded folk.

Pretty much it, went last year, had the time of my life meeting new people, getting drunk, listening to music I don't really try when I'm at home and going out during the late night early morning and having the time of my life at various places.

There's not just music at glastonbury, but it does play a big part.

The girls have the "she wee" these days, basically a paper scoop thing place between your legs so they could pee standing up.

There are mini rave tents everywhere and maxi rave tents. I haven't knowingly heard a guitar during the last 2 I've been to.

Never went to Glastonbury,i was dragged to Stonehenge once and had a mad time, unlike anything I had done before when I was about 16.
Next year the battle of the Beanfield happened and TBH we all thought Glasto was going to suffer the same fate, so we never bothered going.
By the time the rave scene had gone mainstream and commercial, Glasto seemed to have gone that way as well, so never actually went.
I can see how it would be a great experience for people now though, there is a buzz being with like minded people and letting your hair down.
