Exceeds marked bay area - really?

I think a lot of people slating the OP have never tried to park a large car in a car park with small spaces.

And I think you are wrong ;)

I'm afraid I have no desire to drive around for ages trying to find a car park with sensibly sized spaces, so on occasion the back of my car will end up in another space like the OP's. I'd much rather it get bumped gently by someone parking than scraped all down the front/side by someone driving around the car park who hasn't noticed that the front of my car is sticking out more than the other cars.

Just because we chose to drive large cars doesn't mean we are entitled to take more than one parking space in order to park them. In 8 years of driving 5 Series BMW's I have never once had somebody clip the front of it because I was overhanging the front of a space too much - it's just not an issue.

Perhaps it depends where you drive? I honestly don't see how you could park with the rear of your car inside the lines in some of the car parks I have to use around London and walk away thinking "yeah, that'll be fine there". I don't feel as if I'm entitled to take two spaces, but equally there's no way I'm leaving the front of my car sticking right out into the road, so I consider it the lesser of two evils. Anyone with a normal size car could still easily fit into the space behind - if the space behind my car happens to be the last one left, and someone arrives with another large car then that's a shame, but I've often had to leave car parks myself because there's just no room.

At my local supermarket car park, if I parked as you're suggesting, the front of my car would not only be encroaching onto the road, but completely blocking the pedestrian walkway as well. Life can be difficult when you've got 200 inches of length. ;)

Unfortunately things have changed and these notices can no longer be ignored.

However, luckily most of these enforcement companies do not follow the proper legal process or try and claim for losses incurred by your actions (which is the case here as I had paid for my parking ticket, parking outside of the lines means that they could not sell adjacent spaces, thus causing them loss).

They can most definitely be ignored, the problem is most people regurgitate this line without knowing why.

The law has changed, yes, but it's not changed in the way people think. These companies can only seek legal recourse over an amount of money that they can prove you have cost them, and none of it can be at all punitive. This means that it's actually a waste of time for them to legally pursue such matters as it'll cost them more than it's worth. So when it comes to speculative invoices, you really can just ignore them.

How do I put this....

You parked like and ass, stop trying to wiggle out of the fact.

People today, do my ******* head in with their "it wasn't my fault boo hoo"

Okay, so he parked like an arse. Where does that correlate with an invoice for £100, exactly?

If it had been me, logic dictates I'd have overhung the front rather than let the rear part occupy the spaces behind me. It's inconsiderate, puts your (nice) car at more risk of being dinged, but..

It's not the crime of the century, and I think £100 is taking the pee.. Get on Pepipoo and let us know how it goes..

Sounds like your car is not suitable for that carpark then. You can't just take up extra spaces in the same way as I somewhat doubt a bloke in a tractor unit could take up six spaces because 'Yea it doesnt fit mate'.

I like how you draw the red line going in the wrong direction it would clearly align closer outwards.

I do think £100 is excessive to say the least and it should be fought but you're parking is rubbish.

The traffic warden obviously has not read the BMW owners guide now has he. Rule 43 "Though shall park one's premium barge wherever thy like so peasants don't scratch it" right under the rule allowing ALL owners to drive at 100mph on the motorway :D
In all seriousness he's either targeted your brand new car for any minor parking infringement out of jealousy as its not really causing harm like taking up 2 bays or he was just a jobs worth having a slow day.
Seems like people cant park anywhere now days without some private parking company trying it on.

The implication was there though surely, unless I misread it. 'Wiggle out' generally means trying to get away with something, in this case a £100 fine?

I am talking about his parking, as I have said. He is trying to insist it isn't a problem and sadly he is wrong in this case as he now has a problem. The parking is poor and it is obvious to see. I drive the same car and unlike the OP I've been driving for 30 years and also parked like an ass I'm sure in that time now and again...but never got done and would never moan about it like our OP who does feel the need to moan about it.

If he is trying to fight the fight based on his parking position he is misguided because anyone looking at is can see its crap parking and he is suggesting it isn't which is daft. The fine is a side effect and a different discussion, my issue is when people **** up and try and say they haven't, when frankly they have.

It's 3 bays.

Couldn't the OP just of purchased 3 tickets for the 3 spaces he encroached on?

Retarded 'fine' for a non-offence. Painted lines exist to provide an optimum distribution of parked vehicles in a random space, not as some kind of schoolkid "your ruler is on my part of the desk!" divine message from God.

Because, evidently, the spaces are still usable

Fair enough, I'm just explaining why people may have misconstrued your post. :)

Obviously not by another BMW estate. They "need" more room
