Hey..

I've just had my second 2TB Seagate drive die within about 2 months of each other!! Both just out of warranty!!

When the first died I bought the same replacement. Now that a second has died I'm now looking to buy again, but curious if there's a better/more reliable drive? - or was this simply bad luck? :(

Now that the consumer harddrive side of Hitachi have been taken over by Toshiba, I use Toshiba harddrives without problems.

Idk what I'd do if I had to buy a new HDD today, from what I've seen they all seem a pile of poo,I'd only have faith in Samsung drives, used

I use WD blacks. Three 500gb going strong in raid 5 since 2009. Reds not available back then.

Shame about Seagate I used to be a big fan but from the 7200.11s onwards reliability seems to have jumped off a cliff.

WDs are ok but nothing special on the reliability side pretty average, not sure what Toshiba are like for HDDs these days.

EDIT: Looks like Toshiba/Hitachi have the lowest failure rates since 2011. I'd forgotten Samsung's HDD business is now spun off to Seagate.

I tend to buy a 2TB Toshiba internal drive and a 2TB Seagate external at the same time these days, the external for backup. Costs roughly the same price as a single 2TB WD black. As my drives are purely for storage there's no way i'd buy a WD black when i can get 2 drives for the same price.

I still have a couple of 2TB seagate internals that are working fine too, i only avoid them now because of other people's failure rates.
