Insurance price. Where do you personally draw the line?

about 20-30% more than the cheapest I can get.

Crappy 1.25l Fiesta is ~£900, whereas a 2.3l Mazda 6 is only ~£1,100, the extra £200 is definitely worth it!

I look forward to when my insurance is below £500. Currently it's my first year of driving and my insurance £1500 (Hastings). Insurance is due for renewal (£1200 from hastings) and I got a quote for £874 at Direct line. Any advice on where I could potentially find a cheaper quote?
Funny enough saying I'm an engineer increase my direct quote line by £100 compared to saying that I'm a student.

edit: 1.6l Mazda 3

I should probably shop around for some insurance - A quick check on comparison sites seem to indicate Admiral will cover me for just over £500. I've been paying £1k for the last 3 years on my DB9. I am tempted to stick with them for a few reasons:

1) Up to now, premiums have remained the same regardless of modifications.
2) I've had 1 new windscreen and 1 rear screen - together those cost nearly £3500 as I took the car straight to AM.
3) Never had any issues with switching drivers on the policy (up to 5 named drivers) at a phonecalls notice.
4) Included European Recovery

I used to consider car insurance all the same (regardless of company) but now I'm beginning to appreciate the extras I receive by going through a specialist.

Most I've ever paid for car insurance was about £700 for an imported mr2 turbo when I was about 25.

These days, at 41 I'm unhappy paying any more than £300 to be honest. Currently pay around £240 for my mk2 2.0 tfsi TT. One of the few good things about getting older :p

£2600-£3000 seems to be the norm :) rubbish post code + young driver = I will crash into an f40, hey eyedot.

Bit of a strange question. I pay £250 at the moment so I draw the line there.

But if there was some kind of bizarre change in circumstance and after extensive comparison I could only get it for £750 next year, rather than sell my car, I would just pay that.

And then that would be my limit. Etc.

Yeah, I think it would be better phrased along the lines of "how much extra would you be prepared to pay for insurance for something special".

300 quid these days

I am in a performance pack golf gti at the moment at thats 207 quid for the year

I am looking at an R next time so am curious to see what they might want for that

Wouldn't pay much above £1000. Its £560 for me in a gt four, pretty good for 21, however can only do a certain amount of miles each year.

I pay just over £800 for my Skoda Rapid 1.2 TSI. FC, 1Yr NCB, 1 Fault Claim, 22 years old, Self Employed so needs business miles up to 25k/yr. If I didn't have the business inclusion on there, it would have been ~£350 - for the same mileage cover.

Not "happy" about paying out for insurance, but who is! I need it to work and earn, so I really just have to pay what I get quoted. Since having my own policies (19 years old), I haven't paid more than £930 so I don't think I've faired that badly, considering I've been self employed for all of that time as well.

I would hope that, all being well, when the policy comes to renew I will be able to reduce my premium by £200 or so, with a further years no claims on there.

Whatever cheapest I can get to be honest, bottom of the heap postcode and I only seem to own a car every 2-3 years and never owned one for more than a year so while I'm claim free I don't have any no claims bonus. Think I paid a straight sum of £720 for the year for the current Honda Jazz, if I still have it by Feb will finally have no claims but could be leaving the country again by the summer so may not do me a lot of good!

Sorry but what? You spend £3,500 a year to insure a diesel Mondeo? That is absolutely insane, how could you possibly do that without realising the insanity of it?

Fox what's the first part of your postcode?
You must be in a very low crime area for your insurance to be that low?
