Driver's reactions to being undertaken

Every night on the way home on the stretch of dual-carriageway that I do, everyone just sits in the right lane for no reason despite it moving at 50mph because everyone is using it.

I usually end up undertaking for the entire time I'm on there (one junction) and don't feel bad about it at all despite occasionally getting people pull back in the left lane just to beep or speed up behind me. If they all want to all sit in the overtaking lane doing 50mph despite there being an empty lane next to them, that's their problem

They could do you for driving without due care and attention, which carries 3-9 points.

The officer in question can throw whatever allegation he likes at you.

There is no statute that prohibits undertaking or passing on the left.

Overtaking on the right can land you with a dangerous driving charge as well, the only way to secure a dangerous driving conviction would be to prove that the driving in question fell well below the standards expected of a reasonably competent driver.

So indicating, good observation, safely maneuvering the vehicle, letting other road users knowing your intent etc, you will be fine.

Its not just "undertaking derp derp 9 points".

Never said it was, stop making things up.

I got prosecuted for due care and attention having inadvertently gone through a newly erected no entry sign. There's no law against that either.

It's a speed limit, not a speed requirement.

Don't care if anybody 'undertakes' me, don't care if I 'undertake' anyone else. I also have no problem overtaking people doing e.g. 25 in a 30 if the road is clear... just gently sail past as if they aren't there. Having 700 Nm of torque and an autobox certainly helps with the ease of regular overtaking.

I have to commute on the M25 three times a week. It's full with idiots that have no idea what the right lanes are for

It's just as bad in Ireland, people hog up the outside lane holding people up behind them. I dont see the need to drive in the outside lane if u are only going to be doing 70mph or lower.

I normally cruise at 80-90 mph a lot of cars do move over to be fair but there are always those stubborn drivers who never get in when they are holding traffic up.

If someone approaches me i just move over and let them be on their way, i dont speed up just because i'm about to be overtaken i drive at my own pace.

Probably the most annoying thing is when somebody overtakes me just to do the exact same speed as me and sit in front of me. Normally when i overtake someone it's because i am travelling at a faster speed than them but this just makes no sense at all why they do it.

I regularly will pass on the left at above the speed limit, often with an empty lane between myself and the moron sat in the outside lane. Lane discipline is awful in the UK. I'll also flash dawdlers when their is a clear space on the left.

Not killed myself or anyone else yet.

There's a stretch of dual carriageway near me that terminates in a roundabout. It's about a mile and a half long. You can guarantee every day I'm on my way home from the office some moron will be sat in the right hand lane the whole distance doing 40 because they want to turn right at the roundabout. Nine out of ten of them get tetchy when you undertake when it's clear.
Normally flashing lights or hand gestures.
