Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 25th November 2014]

The level of hatred and bile on here seems just a tad lower towards Rodgers than towards Hodgson.

The difference is that Rodgers got Liverpool to 2nd place last year.
This buys him a grace period.
Hodgson came in and immediately had the team going downwards. He didnt do well for them at any stage, like Rodgers has done previously.

I still say that the top 5 teams this year will include Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd. I dont believe that Southampton will maintain their current league position.

I agree with this.
He has certainly done some good work in the past, but right now, he seems to be a bit of disaster.

Again, loads of injuries(and the team has had an injury problem since around october last year), not a huge amount of squad depth due to budget(WAY WAY lower than Liverpools), still doing excellently in the champs league and prioritising that at the moment. A team on a small budget having a bit of an injury crisis will struggle now and then.

he's gotten them into a CL final and won the league amongst other cups, he's absolutely not over rated. A small squad getting burned out after 3 years of incredible success and huge number of games on less than half the budget of teams in the same position.

Remove what blinkers? What has been written, did you post on how brilliant Rodgers was compared to Roy and I missed it? I wasn't defending Hodgson's time at Liverpool, I was just pointing out that Rodgers despite spending massively more and starting this season with a team that was far stronger in the previous season than when Roy took over yet he's doing significantly worse as it stands. I merely pointed out the Rodgers hatred and bile pales into insignificance compared to that of a manager who was doing less badly at the time having had a worse schedule a worse squad and exceptionally little money to buy players with.
Hodgson alienated himself from the supporters, players, former players and two former managers within two months of joining the club due to his stupid comments and the small time attitude he brought to the club. He deserved no time, no respect and every bit of hate that went his way.

Rodgers appealed to the fans from day one and has only ever criticised the players for underperforming and himself. Until this season the team have come on leaps and bounds so he deserves far more time to correct the wrongs and far more respect than Hodgson was ever given.

corrected
We were 7th the season before with Suarez :)

Rodgers didn't blame the players completely
Rodgers didnt tell the fans to stop protesting about owners who brought us to a day within adminstration
Rodgers didn't call a result at goodison utopia
Rodgers didn't opt to play the worst football in the league from day one
Rodgers didn't **** off our previous manager

****ing clown

Hodgson took over a team that finished 7th the previous season iirc, and that was after a good first half and a poor second half of the season, Torres form left before Hodgson joined, they sold a bunch of players, gave him one first team player and a few million a piece for a few players to make up the numbers, they had europa league qualifying games early and played 8 europa league games by this point.

By the end of the transfer window last year Rodgers had spent 100million already, and added to that the club had previous bought Downing, Shelvey, a little guy called Suarez, Henderson, Enrique, Reina, etc. There is 50-60mil of players he still used in the team. Last year they had no europa, no added distractions and a year in which most of the top half opposition had new managers or were just Arsenal and therefore rubbish.

He has now spent a further 120million, lost a single first team player, a back up player in Agger who he didn't use and bought 8 players of which only a single player cost less than 10million, three were 20million or more.

How are Liverpool doing, awful, truly awful.

This is a squad that has had around 300mil spent on it since Hodgson left.... 300million. Rodgers has spent a full 200million of that himself.

His buying has been overall terrible, really really terrible, he had one lucky season thanks to a stand out season from Suarez, has spent a silly amount and now they suck balls. How many wingers/attacks has he bought and Downing is currently one of the stand out players of the league this year.

Last year, crap keeper, Ilori, Sakho, Toure, Aspas, Alberto, season before Borini, Allen, Assaidi, Sturridge, Coutinho, this year, rubbish.

I'm not arguing Hodgson did great, I'm saying Rodgers has done terribly. He's destroyed the defence, he's bought horrendously, he's sold useful players, pushed out Reina(madness).

His almost singular success was Sturridge, a player he'd actually worked with before at Chelsea.

So people understand.....

Okore's looked really solid tonight and his passing has been decent too. To be honest I think cashing in on Vlaar might not be a bad move, he's been injured a lot this season and United will probably be desperate in January.
