Helping a friend build up a rig, hes starting with nothing and has a grand to spend which has to include a 24" 1080p monitor, keyboard, mouse and operating system.

Looking to go with intel for the cpu and nvidia for the GPU. Hes had AMD before and doesnt want to go red this time as hes had problems in the past. He wants to play COD AW, Assassins Creed etc at 60fps.

Can an intel nvidia 1080p/60fps build be done all in for a grand?

Think I will do this:)

He said no AMD.

I included a PSU ready for SLI;)

True about the AMD, but was just suggesting an alternative option :) It is still a good GPU, so is just there should the OPs friend change his mind

Ideally I wouldn't SLI on a 4690k anyway (especially with high end GPUs like the 970) and I'd take a 144Hz monitor any day over a PSU that is ready for SLI ;)

EDIT: Also, the SSD I included is bigger, albeit more expensive overall

You are wrong;)

I don't think so, maybe you think so, but I'd prefer to have a better monitor as a pose to a better PSU that I may end up using the power in 1-3 years time, why not enjoy now with a nicer monitor? :)

Anyway, no point in arguing, just a couple of options to look at for the OP (/his friend)

Thanks guys, I'm impressed you can get such a good system for a grand! I'll have a talk with my mate tomorrow and let you know what we go for.

Thanks again.

An i5 4690K will cope fine with GTX 970/980 SLI.

I just meant in terms of "unleashing the potential?" :D Thought the general consensus was that i7 is better for SLI high-end? Though again, it's where opinions differ with 144hz monitor vs SLI-ready PSU

I7 is only useful in a few games with sli/xfire. Even less of an issue at resolutions above 1080p.
