US: Constantine - NBC - Matt Ryan - Autumn

It had terrible start, miscasted pilot, it recovered, it got better, but ultimately I see no hope for it.
Problem? Welshman doing over the top accent that sounds more like someone is taking a mick of Jason Statham than Constantine's native scouse accent. It is rubbing even me the wrong way. I don't know how he picked and got signed off on that accent, they should have ended up with something between Jason Isaacs and David Morrissey for US TV, not go for some bizarre "if London cabbie lived up north in a welsh community" hybrid as it's always going to be incomprehensible to most Americans and it makes the character very unlikeable and yobbish.

Other than that, there is no reason why it couldn't do 10 seasons like supernatural.

It will probably go on for another season and if the stories are intriguing enough, another.

I think this has been very good so far but then I like sleep hollow series. I see it similar to that but a bit less cheesy as they can get away with things more due to the story being about demons escaping and so on. I didn't read the original Constantine and don't mind if he doesn't smoke and they change it up. I like it more than the dominion series that was on recently. Hope they don't mess up the series order. Although not perfect and strange casting in pilot.. Now it does seem the EPs are out of order. His mind reading partner is hot though.

Hmm don't think a Scouse accent would have improved the show :S latest episode is an order of magnitude better than the first few.

Enjoyed the last episode muchly but now we have to wait a month to see what happens with the cliffhanger - now that's evil :D

Don't watch the preview clip for the next episode. It totally ruins the surprise. The narrator literally tells you what happened.

I really enjoyed that episode. The Zed bits weren't great, but the rest was really good. Again, they need to find more use for Chas though. I was reading an interview with Matt Ryan afterward and one of the things he talked about was how the show gradually becomes more authentic as the series progresses. This was partly deliberate as they felt viewers needed easing in to the character and world of John Constantine, and partly down to it simply taking time to get a handle on the characters. He seemed genuinely excited about episodes 8, 9 and 13 in particular, saying these show off exactly what they'd like to achieve with the show.

I still think season 2 will happen tbh, though it will probably be another 13 episode run. NBC pretty much need Constantine to be a success. If it flops and they cancel it, WB and DC are unlikely to give them anything else. They're hoping Constantine leads to other DC franchises (ala Arrow's success allowing The CW to do The Flash). As such, it'll get a little more leeway than other shows might.

I had to watch it after you said that. Very ingenious and typically John Constantine ;) Unfortunately it isn't aired until after Christmas :(

I had high hopes for this, before I watched it.

The pilot was OK, it was only just good enough for me to consider watching another episode but the 2nd episode just put me off. I forced myself to watch the 3rd episode and some cringe worthy acting made me turn it off about 15 minutes in. Disappointed.

Keep going. It does get better.

Nice show I think it has that potential.... but do wish like these tv shows sometimes you gotta go all out otherwise its just another supernatural, and if they don't impress early on then expect the cut.
