Energy drinks

Same. I tried some when my misses was in hospital giving birth to my daughter (spent a long time there with not much sleep as it was complicated) and they did nothing for me.

When I see school kids or folk here at work drinking them, I just think (rightly or wrongly) hipster.

Nah the hipsters are the ones ordering the fair trade super mocholatefrapacuiino with extra horse testicle.

I can't have 90% of caffeine based drinks anymore but I can get away with the odd can of Redbull. But Redbull only, the others I have tried set me off like 1 cup of coffee will. (Makes my digestive system feel like it is being ripped apart).

Like others here I see people at work drinking these, but it trends on the brand of energy drink and some of them will happily drink 2 or 3 cans of Monster per shift.

Am I a hipster if I order a decaff gingerbread latte with no cream? lol :D

The McDonalds here do not have decaff. Not sure if any of the fast food chains here do?

Guess I am a hipster then lol :D

Worse than normal fizzy drinks which are very bad.
More caffeine and less crap in a coffee and tastes a 1000x better.
Just why.

A cup of coffee has more caffeine than a can of red bull...

The funniest thing is people in gyms drinking these, they don't seem to realise the first half hour is just them burning off all the sugar in the drink lol

MW

Most people I know go to the gym to gain weight, not lose it...

thinking about it, there should probably be more grades on my scale. currently it is:

scum: 1.19 or less (i'm happy to include myself here)
hipster: anything costing 1.20 or more

:p

Energy drinks are for hipsters?! I've heard it all now :p

I am genuinely worried about the amount of energy drinks that are drunk regularly by younger people. The effect that these have on the body has been well proven to have negative effects. Sure a drink like this from time to time isn't going to be a big deal, but every single day and several cans, no thanks, a good way of frying yourself and burning yourself out. The chemicals released and receptors in your body that get saturated and used to confront those in the drink is quite taxing on the body.

There is enough doubt among health professionals and dietitians and nutritionist community that should make people think twice about drinking them regularly. Because they are relatively "new" we still don't have enough data but I foresee some of our younger generations being adversely affected by these drinks.

If you need a boost, review your diet/lifestyle and make changes there. Then even having just a cup of coffee will have a greater more prominent effect.

Instead of drinking "energy" drinks people should generally:

*try eating better
*drinking more water instead
*sort out their sleep routine
*exercise more

You'll be amazed by just how much more real energy you have!

edit:
and to answer the OP I should have said:

Agree with this. My vice is unfortunately an occasional cup of coffee as I love the taste. But I won't touch modern energy drinks. When I felt awful earlier in the year and kept falling asleep my solution was to exercise and fix my diet (not managed to fix my overnight sleep hours yet).

Quad mocha breve (4 espresso shot + cream + dark chocolate). Something like 240mg caffiene and 50g of fat. Plus an unfiltered camel turkish blend cig.

I find fat gives me more energy. Have that for breakfast and youre set for the day.

As much as it probably corrodes away my insides, I like a can of monster (yellow or green) occasionally.

Used to drink a can of the stuff a day for a couple of months. Thankfully that's over with now.

Never touched them, just can't see the appeal. They look vile. I don't drink a lot of fizzy drinks these days anyway, maybe the odd Coke or Fanta or something if I'm out for a meal and driving, but never at home. Mostly it's water or fruit juice of some description.

I have energy drinks when i'm out training on my bike. I need approx 1 litre per 15 miles so when i'm doing a 40 mile+ ride I'll stop off at shops to refill.

I just buy which ever branded energy drink is two for £2, but Lucozade Brazilian Guava is my preferred choice :)

Don't think I have had one in years now. I used to like the big 500ml ones when I was climbing but found that you quickly become dependent on them to bring you up to a baseline energy. I don't know if I am borderline diabetic but if I have any serious amount of sugar these days I get a really heavy crash a bit later.
