Energy drinks

very rarely drink energy drinks and food

I am a cyclist, so I sometimes drink things like HIGH 5 energy power that you just mix with water and sometimes there energy bars

Lucozade Orange about once a year
none of this red bull, monster, kixx stuff, vile!

I'm surprised they have ever been permitted to call themselves energy drinks. They do nothing of the sort. What they actually do is cause you to go into withdrawal when you go without one for a while, so when you drink the next one you relatively feel better (i.e. normal again). Compared to someone who doesn't drink them there's no gain whatsoever. Same goes for coffee and the like, too.

If you want to drink this rubbish because you like the taste or something, then fine - just don't lie to yourself and others that it's because of the "boost" or "pick-me-up" it just plainly doesn't give you.

They are full of stimulants so they do give you a kick but like anything, after a while your body doesn't react to it in the same way and you need it just to make you feel normal.

thats right folks proven stimulants only work once then instantly force you into physical addiction.

I saw a scummy looking mum giving her two kids "SUPER DUPER 80% EXTRA FREE!!" cans of relentless or monster the other week, utter parenting failure.

You cant beat an ice cold lime or cherry coke though.

I do this when my missus offers to baby sit my nieces for my brother. I feed them full of sweets and sugar so that when I return them they're wired to the moon.

I'll happily dog sit for someone, but don't fob your kids off on me, even if we are blood related. They're sticky, they smell and they're too loud. Now you're going to get them back stickier, smellier and louder.

Wow! The amount of people drinking these for gym/workouts is much higher than I expected!! It's not helping. Water.
Energy drinks do work.
I've done many bike rides where I've been drinking water up 60 miles with my legs loosing their snap and power after about 50 miles. I stop and refill with an energy drink or gel and the difference it makes can be felt within a coupe of minutes.

Sometimes they are so effective that it feels like I've had a fresh set of legs fitted :)

High 5 2:1 on a 2 hr plus bike ride otherwise just good ole water is enough for me. If I'm tired and need a boost then coffee every time.

high5 is where its at. I use the fruit punch flavoured one for bike rides and during weight sessions in the gym. All other pre canned drinks are junk and full or processed sugar.

It's just the excess unhealthy gloop you're having to work off again. For an energy boost there are cleaner methods, for rehydration there's ORS. Drinking chemically flavoured syrup can't be good.
It's good when it enables you to finish the final 20 miles of a 100 miles fast :)

Ah yes, I used to have that when mountain biking. Fairly tasty that! A bit different to the above but probably more of an 'energy' drink than what's being discussed here!

I did come across this on instagram recently, haven't seen it in the UK:

Used to guzzle down Red Bulls by the four pack load. Back in my early 20s... Back when you could by a four pack for around 3/4£ or a single can for 1£.

Dont touch them or anything else like it anymore.

I used to drink sugar free redbull and sometimes monster. I really like the taste of some the sugar free ones, and working next to a diabetic I get a bit paranoid with the amount of sugar in them....albeit i say that with two bags of crunchy M&Ms sat infront of me haha

Stopped drinking them now though, I don't drink any other fizzy drinks either, haven't really since i was about 13-14 (Once the dentist told me to "cut down on fizzy drinks"....I'm not sure why but that really stuck and i drink about 90% apple and blackcurrant squash these days, 5% fruit juice from tropicana, and the other 5% is the occasional beer or cider)

I prefer a strong coffee just before my gym workout. Then I take on board water and BCCAs during the routine. Energy drinks are over sugared rubbish that rot your teeth
