I did not want to, but with all the rain and my commute to the station starting again on Monday, I had to fit some mudguards to my Plug, SKS Raceblades. Not a good look but one that is necessary.

Question is, do I fit the bell from my other commuter? :o

I don't think they look that bad, although I'm accustomed to seeing guards on every commuter bike! How did you find the fit? How wide are your tyres and why did you choose the raceblades? I'm only asking as I did consider them but after reading some reviews they don't sound like a longer term solution - more for people who want removable guards. :)

I've not been out since last weekend. Between the weather and work I've just not had it in me. I may get out tomorrow afternoon, but if it's icy I'll give it a miss.

Same here but for different reasons! I'm glad I've missed the high winds, although the temps have not been that bad here or had much rain during my commute times considering everything else - although strong winds are the worst - a good time to be off the bike! ;)

Tomorrow looks good here, dry and bright, although not very warm. Daylight hours look best between 10am - 2pm (kinda expected). Winds are very low (~10mph), temps not going much over 4 degrees only for a short period, but above freezing the rest of the time.

Sunday looks worse - stronger winds are back (although temps higher) because rain is forecast 10am-10pm with the heaviest around 4pm-6pm. They might be fairly localised so you might be lucky and miss them, temps good around 7/8 degrees most of the daylight hours.

Finally !!

I am feeling an improvement !

Normally do 30 miles, and my legs would go around 20/25 miles

today, I almost did 40 miles !

When I hit the 30 mile mark, I had a big grin on my face :D
as I then knew I had improved

my legs started to go around 30 miles this time, still felt fairy good at this point, but at 35 I was almost wasted
end of the whole ride I felt better than before
my average speed has increased slightly too

However... Don't giant do some own brand mudguards for their bikes?

Also, fwiw, I can fit 28mm knobbly tyres under my chromoplastics on my TDF, so I'm sure you can manage 25mms on the defy unless it's got a really silly fork or seat stays.

I have a 2012 Defy with the Giant Defy specific mudguards and have 25mm GP4S tyres on at the moment. My rear mudguard sheared off at the brake mount point last week actually after 2 years - annoying but managed to fix it with a zip tie. Not replacing them as I plan to get a winter bike next month.

I've ordered a set of the Giant guards from Wheelies... Fingers crossed they arrive on monday so I've only got the weekend and monday morning commute without guards (and a wet bum!) :)

I'm just going with Giant ones as they are built specially for them so why not as the price is similar.

I went to the docs today to sort out a sore throat i've had for a couple of months on and off. Turns out its laryngitis AND a chest/lung infection with fluid in my ears too

Wondered why I kept getting chest pains when working out hard (HIT stuff) , thought it was just the cold air getting in there.

Oh well a week on antibiotics and some recovery time should take me through xmas so might as well resign myself to putting on a few ppounds before NY and back hitting it hard again.

The winter horse has arrived! Early day aero forks are pretty cool.

About mudguards, is it a case of one size fits all? ive never had a bike that takes them before. Looking to fit some to this to save the spray.

I was just doing research online about what to get as my bike has no mounts and the reviews were good. The tyres on there at the moment are 700 x 32 so I had to get the XL Raceblades to accomodate, but I can of course go down to thinner tyres, as we get into spring.

The fitting was a doddle to be honest. Bit of bending here and there but it is part of the instructions. They do just clip on with rubber toes, but you can use some supplied cable ties to make them a bit more permanent. If I had mounts I would probably have looked at something else.

Tyre width is important to know.

Not ridden this week for one reason (hangover) or another (weather).

Canyon is giving me jip. After all the delays the bike is missing a bar end plug, has a small scratch on the top tube (black sharpie solved that) the back plate for the FD grub screw hasn't been installed allowing that to scratch the frame and my mudguards are missing the front frame mounts.

Never buy from Canyon, they are terrible. Bikes are great, service isn't worth the effort.

Disconcerting as I was looking at getting the Carbon Endurace next year...give me some comfort?

Nice. Any idea what the frame is? I'm sure the lugless construction and the tall seat tube extension probably gives it away.

It's why I'd probably be too scared to order frames/handlebars/wheels from Alibaba and so forth. Obviously there will be manufacturers who are doing scarily good replicas which are basically the same as real parts... but the potential consequences of failures to parts like that are crazy.

Although I'm dubious if he honestly believed he was getting a real part, rather than a knock off one.

Yeah... Unless he is utterly dense he's trying it on.

You're posting on a bike specific thread on a forum for people with greater technical knowledge than most. You're likely far more savvy than the average numpty buying any old LOL CARBEN tat on ebay. It's dumbed down for the berk on the street.

It's nothing to do with knowledge of bikes. It's not being an idiot when you see things super cheap from a non-reputable seller.

And no, some random ebay guy with 1000 feedback shouldn't fill you with confidence.

The older lady just after him I have more sympathy for. He is clearly an idiot or a liar.

I recall Damien - remember him? - had issues with his Canyon. It was delayed for ages, then they sent it with the wrong stem just to get it out of the door and he had to wait for them to send the right one.

Mind you, no one's perfect, my Planet X bike came with the most hilariously ugly stem back in April and I had to call and get them to send a sensible looking one.
