Breaking News: Hostages taken in Sydney

Why would you show your hand so early and say you had hidden bombs....sounds like a bluff to me. if you can't even manage to make a flag I doubt you have made bombs.

He's n00bed out here I rekon...

Exactly, were the bombs mentioned before he asked for his demands or mentioned only after the demands were not met? I missed a lot of this.

Sounds like he wants the public to believe that there is more than just him involved.

I'm not sure about the scale of the area he is talking about the bomb being planted in but you can bet if there are bombs the Australian EOD lot will find them and get the deactivated pretty sharpish. I doubt this chap has got the technical skill required to make something at home that they can't defuse.

He probably learned his terrorism off the internet, whereas the Mumbai ***** were real ones.

This is also my belief. He has probably made connections with people who just spout the literature of ISIS.

Either way hope the Aussie authorities get him off this mortal coil soon and that all involved (bar him) are unharmed.

I don't think anyone really knows as the police had told the media not to release any information passed to them from the guy or hostages and impressively the media are playing ball and keeping stuff quiet. The demands were originally sent to one of the TV channels.

The guy doesn't have to be trained by ISIS, or even in contact with them. The ISIS propaganda seems to have reached an incompetent buffoon on this occasion, but it could just as easily reach someone who’s clever and more organised next time.

Right gotcha cheers.

Yeh I dont get it, The guy just sounds mentally unstable more than an actual gun ho terrorist.
Id imagine the police are trying to figure out how competent he could be at making a bomb before making their move.
Id be surprised if this doesnt end in a raid because I doubt he will be walking out of there on his own accord.

Bringing the wrong flag kind of suggests the guy might not be a hardcore terrorist, but rather some loon with a gun. My moneys going on him getting shot at 3am.

searching the house and anywhere connected to hi mas well no doubt to try and find if he ha made anyhthing.

Just wanting to point out that Australia is no more or no less racist then what the UK is, we have the same discrimination laws and we also have a high influx of immigrants from Asia like the UK does.

Recently there has been a high number of "terror" raids directed at the closed off Lebanese Muslim community (mostly) and the Australian Media hasn't helped but most of us understand this is some nutjob and doesn't reflect the 99% of Muslims living peacefully in Oz.

I think this is more of a political statement rather than the guy being a die-hard Islamic fundamentalist. Wanting to send a flag to the PM is a strange request. Also having some of the hostages escape also reeks of amateur or badly planned siege.

Eitherway I hope this can be resolved with no loss of life.

No, I meant no loss. As in what's the point in killing him if you can stop him safely? Far better to understand why he is doing what he is doing than just ending his life for the sake of it.

That's the ideal situation. Unfortunately these things seldom end that way. I just hope he sees sense and gives himself up.
