Hi all, I recently bought the Samsung 32D850D 32" and have found it to have an issue when PC gaming.
When in 'outside enviroments' the monitor flickers white frequently (there is also very faint vertical lines when the flicker occurs).
Interestingly, when in caves and dungeons there is absolutely no flicker at all.
I have literally just plug and played with the monitor, so no software updates or settings have really been played with. So I am wondering if there is something I need to do to fix the issue.
I have connected it via HDMI (I originally connected it via DVI and the issue occurred then too) and have set it to the native 1440 resolution.

Looking around the internet regarding flickering, while I found little info on this specific model, I have seen solutions with other TVs/Monitors that involved:
Replacing the Power cord
Disabling Deep Color
Reducing Contrast to 0, put brightness to 100 (but that seems like a work around to the fault rather than fixing anything)

An example of the issue is here:

Interestingly the guy had the same problem with the BenQ.

I haven't had the chance to test any solutions yet, but if anyone else has had flickering issues on this or any monitor and can offer solutions, they will be appreciated. Currently looks like it may have to be returned, it certainly seems flickering is not an uncommon issue

The Acer equivalent monitor also displayed the same issue for me. I believe it is an issue that was not apparent on earlier production, only in the past few months have these displays had this problem.

I have returned my acer, great screen up until that flickering appeared. Probably best to return it and either try and get your hands on a earlier batch or wait until there's confirmation of a fix for newer batches.

That's what I was afraid of. Disappearing on holiday for 4 weeks sowon't be able to sort out a return till after that. Just curious, how did you go about returning yours? It's a bit large to carry over to the local post office :P

I packaged the screen up and got city link to deliver back, cost about £12 but hoping to claim that back! Didn't buy from here though, was worried about an issue like this so bought it from somewhere I knew wouldn't be difficult with returns.

No way was I going to take it to the post office, far to heavy and big!

Having only really played alien isolation on mine and minimal bf4, I guess I better see if I have this issue...

Better find a bright game to try. Suggestions?

Well you either have the problem or not, seems to be the more recent batches that have issues. If you really want to find out whether yours has a problem then there's Google earth. Open it in a windowed tab, hover over the himalayas (can't remember exact instructions) and drag the window.

There's more detailed instructions if you Google, not sure if I can link the other website :/.

Alternatively skyrim and head to a bright area.

It's an issue with the panel used. Happens on a lot of Benq bl3200PT. A whole forum talking abut it here http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1803982&page=66

Mine does the same. I can fix it by setting AMA to off and reducing the contrast. Some games, especially Arma 3, flicker loads whatever settings you use.

I will RMA it back to Benq once the issue is fixed. In the forum thread I linked to someone says they emailed Benq and they said they were aware of the problem. No official acknowledgement of it though.

That's a good point. Given its new and I have the whole warranty remaining, think it is best to wait awhile before I RMA rather than doing it now and getting back another faulty one?

Am going to return mine.

What the hell is up with monitor manufacturers lately?

34um95 with horrible bleed issues and displayport standby issues, these with the flicker problem.

OcUK want me to go straight to Samsung for on-site swap, but I don't feel confident I would get a screen without the problem, as this appears more of a wider panel issue.

Its up to you really, I use mine for more than just gaming and the flickering only occurs in some games. Most of the flickering can be fixed with playing about with some settings so I'm keeping it for now. I only noticed the flickering 1 month after I got it anyway. I was using it solely for movie watching, Wii U playing and games that were darker so I didn't see any flickering. I then decided to fire up Skyrim and I was like wtf is happening, did some investigating and found out about the issue affecting the panel.

I have 2 monitors anyway, one 120Hz 24 inch Benq and the 32 inch Benq. All the games cause the flickering issue I play on the 120Hz monitor, those that don't suffer from flickering I play on the 32 inch Benq.

I have my 24 inch monitor still available for use, so may just park the new monitor for awhile rather than replacing again and again. Wait till the issue is resolved.

Sorry, but what makes you guys think the issue will ever be resolved?

And does anyone have an idea on how many of the screens are affected? All? Most? Few?

Do you guys think it is worth going to Samsung and getting it swapped out?

I just don't want to go down that road if there is any possibility that I am just going to be given another monitor with same issue.

Because, at this point, am still well within rights to return it to OcUK, and I don't have a lot of spare time for dealing with issues if I end up in some cycle of just getting monitor after monitor with the same problem.

Glad decided to send this back.

Have noticed the flicker in skyrim, far cry 4, that Google Earth hing (obviously), but worst of all have even seen it when minimising windows to go to desktop.

Am sure if I fired up more games I would see it other places too.

Did you return via contacting Samsung or did you do it here? Can you let me know how easy/smooth the return is - how long it takes to get replacement (or did you go for refund?) If replacement, did the new screen work?

I just returned here for refund, simply because it was such a widespread issue with the panel, even between different manufacturers, I didn't expect to easily get one without the problem.

Fair enough. I got mine at a decent price so a refund is no use as I can't buy any alternatives with the cash. So likely I will have to keep sending monitors back to Samsung till they get it right
