Am I in any trouble?

Hey all, would just like a second opinion. If there's a police man who could comment that'd be handy!

I was in the fast lane of a dual carriage way behind this van doing about 85 maybe 90 tops. For about a mile or so a focus estate was tailing me quite allot which was quite frustrating, so when the van eventually moved over I floored it to about 100-105, in turn overtaking the van and another car, I then moved to the slower lane so this guy could pass me.....To my horror the focus started flashing blue lights so was actually an un-marked police car! So he pulls along side me, and appears to just give me a warning just signalling that I should slow down. He then turns his lights off and just carries on, obviously going much faster than I was and that was it.

Am I likely to get anything in the post? This police man was obviously on another call.

Not sure if I should be worried?

They didn't pull you, no issue.

Bet you won't be doing it again anytime soon though huh? His work is done.

Plus if he was alone and had no camera equipment he can't do anything anyway.

I've been on the wrong side of 120 and had a Mondeo put on some blue lights and tell me not to do that again with hand signals after I slowed down.

Perhaps an Inspector or something just going home?

Have had this a couple of times (one at quite a bit more than 105), it's always been just a warning and I haven't received any tickets. I suspect a lot of traffic cops don't care about speeding unless there's other aggravating factors, particularly if they've got a more important job on the go at the time.

I doubt you'll get anything, they'd have stopped you if they wanted to ticket you I expect

I certainly hope that's the case! Thanks.

Could have been copper, fireman, basement dweller with no life and some blue lights. You'll be fine.

Lol yea, never know. I surprised that the car in question was an older looking Focus. I always assumed the police use the newer models...

If that was the police then consider yourself lucky, 105mph is ban territory if I recall correctly.

Yea I recall something similar, I thought anything over 100 was instant ban. Like you said it looks like I got off easy.

Lol yeah, you can bet I'll be more cautious going forward, mind you am not an aggressive driver or go particularly quick day to day anyway. Only in certain rare situations like this that I would ever floor it just to get rid of someone if they're sitting on my tailgate.

I have dash cam footage, all you can see is me flooring it then this cop overtaking.

Court appearance yes, pretty sure there is no such thing as an instant ban. Chances are though, going to court at those speeds has a good chance of resulting in a ban unless you have a good reason for them to be lenient.

What about going backwards?

Good point. Haven't given this much thought.

Is police dash cam footage admissible in court? Can they easily tell how fast I was going just on the footage alone?

Also to add, there is no fast lane on the dual carriageway BTW.;)

Well, whatever you want to call it, the outside lane perhaps

It doesn't sound like it was an RPU (Roads Policing) car (unless it was a Focus ST), so it likely won't have had any in-car video equipment or calibrated speedo/speed measuring equipment. You're safe.

yep Thats the best telling off a copper can do. You'll be crapping yourself for a lot longer than if he pulled you over and got it over with.

Decent copper by the sounds of it.

I've had a couple of them in the last million+ miles they always make me slow down.

Give me a ticket and I've got to speed to make up the time I've just lost:D

I once did 75mph in a 50 limit as a traffic car with blues came up behind me and traffic coming the other way meant he couldn't get past.
He gave me a nice wave when I eventually moved out his way.

Nope still wrong.

A friend got a fixed penalty for 120mph it even said 120mph+ on the ticket.

Your dash cam footage can be used as evidence in court and has been used a few times now as evidence for prosecution.

It is the overtaking lane, never been the fast lane.

Had the same on the m40 but with a motor cycle copper I was going 90 he gestured to slow down with one hand while going 90 odd himself and he was a picture of control riding one handed was more impressed with his control of the bike than i was worried about getting pulled to the side.
