Mondeo 2.5T MPG

I didn't think the 5 cylinder sounded any different to a refined 4. Certainly not like a 6. It goes well though!

I've had a look at it this morning and can't tell what it is!

The ST badge must have been my imagination (and viewing it at silly o'clock in the morning I guess!) when I see him next, I'll ask what engine is in it.

I'm sure he said it was a 2.5, I've probably assumed he ment a V6....

I'll crawl back under my rock. :p

If it's an 08 plate it won't be an ST and it'll be a 2.5 turbo 5-cyl. The very last of the ST220s (3.0 V6) Were 07 plates unless for some strange reason his went unregistered...!

Oh dear, I was looking at Fords with the 2.5 turbo as a "downsize" and wee money saver. I was looking at Mondeo and Focus ST, but also seen the guy on here with the Titanium X sport Mondeo with the 2.0 ecoboost engine and REALLY like the look of that!

I have a 2.8 turbo V6 Saab 9-3. It's running 320bhp and I do about 6k per year mixed. Get 33mpg on long runs (100 miles on 60/70 roads with overtaking) and I get 23/24 average back and forth to work which is 30/40 roads with roundabouts etc.

I want to downsize to something less thirsty, and not £500 road tax. I guess the Fords you guys speak of are no go :( I'm more inclined to just take the hit as I simply cannot give up my manly engine for something small and whiney now, have any of you ever went from these bigger growly engines to something "lesser" and not been bothered? Or did you all feel like me?

Apologies for going slightly OT guys.

I went from a 3.0 V6 in my previous car which was an ST220 to the 2.0 Ecoboost. The only thing that is lacking in the new car is the soundtrack.

It is your car I was referencing above in my post I love the look of that motor, nice car :) Looking at them on Autotrader right now.

I have driven my old neighbours ST220 many a times and I was honestly never fond of it. It did sound great and was a nice place to be, it just lacked something for me I could never quite put my finger on it. Really nice car in many ways it just missed that little spark for me.

See you are a bit of a trend setter with that new Mondeo of yours. I need to test drive on of those. You have really got my interest in it. Thanks.

It will. There are better 4 cylinder engines out there like Honda, Mercedes, Subaru etc.

It depends what you are basing your comparisons on really. In terms of refinement, the 2L Ecoboost is pretty good, quiet and is probably better than the engines you mentioned, but obviously lacks aural character which the 2.5T makes up for.

In terms of 4 pots with character, then yes the Subaru boxer 4, Honda Vtecs etc are gonna sound much nicer than the 2L Ecoboost, and in that sense will be superior to even the 2.5T. But they aren't exactly refined in the sense that you can have long quiet motorway journeys in them.

But your original comparison was based on refinement so my argument was that the 2.5T sounds better than a refined four but maybe not better than a revvy/performance 4pot. I suppose it's a compromise between the two where a 6pot would take it one step further and be refined whilst still sounding good when revved.

I've asked him and apparently it's a 3.0V6,which was bought in Cobh (Ireland) and re-registered over here on an 08 plate.

Probably something iffy about it, he's a Paddy too! :p :D

Final question for tbe owners, I'm sold on this car and going to check out a Mondeo Estate later today, need to make sure my son can see out when using his car seat.

Anything to look out for?
