It's a sheep in wolf's clothing. I remember the disappointment when I saw the power figures. It's a mid-life crisis car for people who don't want a TT or a Boxter.
they've all said it's for those who want an out and out affordable rwd sports car

At £15-£18k it would be an awesome car and almost all criticisms levelled at it would vanish.
But it's not £15k. It's £25k.
I love these cars, great choice. I've had a couple of extended test drives now - the way you can feel the car pivot around you when cornering is very satisfying and I didn't need to reach license losing speeds to enjoy it on the back roads.
I was very close to ordering one but I just wasn't satisfied with the interior as a brand new car. I also found second gear annoyingly stiff when the gearbox was cold and there's horror stories of detonation damaging injectors on track days (where I would definitely want to use it).
As for the complaints about it not feeling like a £25k car, I agree, but bear in mind that these can be ordered for £20.5k brand new from a broker now for the spec which includes most of the options. Given this I think the residuals on used cars are still far too high. I'm waiting for the market to catch up and once they hit £12k I'll be straight in one.
Enjoy!

In my 5 I find 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd a bit notchy (and it occasionally graunches slightly on 2nd to 3rd) but only when cold, once I'm a mile down the road it's better.
I did change the gearbox fluid in the summer to the castrol syntrans stuff everyone recommends, it was a slight improvement but nothing vastly different. Do love the gearbox in the mx5, one of the best things about the car, prefer it to the s2000 box that everyone raves about (my s2000 was extremely graunchy when cold and it also had the common problem where it would pop out of second occasionally too).
Apart from a new number plate I don't get why people don't get a late S2000 rather than a GT86 / BRZ.

Clarkey check out Pistonheads, the video they are referencing is in the thread called 'Troy is real...' or something like that...
Its some pretentious dude badly reviewing his own porsche 964, very elitist and OTT about his driving skill versus the demands of the car.
I liked the 86, but agree with that.
I think its probably the new car factor + plate
I can see the 5 year warranty playing a big part in some peoples decision.
