all installed ok with my 5.25" drive bay to give me an extra space, this new 256gb SSD is to upgrade my old 120gb SSD, i am keeping both SSD's but would like my entire old SSD drive copied onto my new bigger SSD drive, i take it its not as simple as copying the old SSD drive and pasting it on to the new SSD is it? id also like to backup my old ssd b4 i transfer data, now i have tried using the windows backup, but that is trying to back up every drive of which comes to about 4tb and ive not got enough space for that, any pointers would be great

thanks

Does your old SSD have your O/S on it? If so you can use Macrium Reflect, or if you have another spare drive you can take a windows system image then restore this to the new drive.

If it's a data drive only, assign a temporary drive letter, copy and paste the files from old drive to new, swap the drive letters and reboot.

Thanks a lot guys! just installed Macrium Reflect now! going to try to transfer my old SSD to my new one now :) thanks guys, ill let you know how i get on ...

all cloned ok, and o/s on old ssd has now been deleted, running all good on new ssd now :) thanks guys

one thing that is niggling me is thats its created a new A drive??? with only 100mb of space? not sure how to get rid of it or if i should? it was not there before

thanks mate.....i can not seem to find the drive management tho, do you know how to get to it please ;)

right click on computer and then go to manage, on the next screen click on disk management on the bottom left hand side

once there right click on the drive and go to change drive letters and paths and on the next screen there Is a remove botton

nice, thank you kindly, so i wont mess anything up by removing the drive right? it will still be there just not displayed as a drive right?

edit, ok ive clicked on remove now and im getting this message

"WARNING: changing the drive letter of a volume might cause programs to no longer run, do u want to continue?

i just want to make sure before i push yes lol

Removing the drive letter from the reserved partition will be fine, and yes it will still continue to exist as a partition in Disk Management, you just won't be able to see it in file explorer.
