Ubisoft now charging PC gamers £45 for each of there latest PC games

Wow, didn't realise that. So what Ubisoft is doing here is potentially annoying the PC user base with broken releases and stupidly high prices.

Yep, and even more so now with digitally distributed games, because console games are still mostly physical releases, where there are numerous parties that want a slice of the asking price, compared to Steam where it's the publishers or developers and Valve that takes a cut. Skrim was making quite a bit more on a per item basis on Steam than the other platforms it came out on, I just think the issue or difference is that (at the time the information was released) there had been a lot more sales on the consoles combined.

We would probably get better prices and more ports if places like steam would release sales figures...

everyone just assumes piracy is rampant and it stops some devs considering pc releases

go read places like nfohump forums that are dedicated to the discussion of pirated releases of games.

even the bloody pirates buy the games these days!, I'm convinced piracy on pc is no where near as big as it used to be

There maybe a lot of piracy with PC games but Consoles games have a huge secondhand market which the dev's would get no money from....;)

But this isn't uplay it's steam so gabe is taking a big fat piece of the pie too
As I already wrote these high Ubisoft prices has nothing to do with gabe big fat piece of the pie .;)

Games have always been cheap on PC, but this trend is now coming to an end. I use keys from other sites and ebay. It's easy to get them and still uses the same service steam/uplay.

so While it is annoying, just do a bit of google searching and you will usually find them below £30 for anew title.

This isn't strictly true, console games have skyrocketed to £55+ per title and PC games have come up to follow suit, they are still £10 full RRP less than their console counterparts. It's gaming in general that's getting more expensive.

Simple solution - don't "buy".
Glad I "bought" it because a few of them went in the bin after a couple hours.
I've happily paid for other products from them but as far as multi player goes ubisoft are a running joke with it being so amazingly clunky.

My god damned port forward screen on my router is huge and filled mostly with ubisoft port requirements, then lets not talk about how bad it is to get into a freaking game with everyone and lack of proper support for joining in progress/drops/saving in decent places/rolling back 20minutes of content after a single death of a 4 player coop etc etc.

The eternal optimist or the sarcastic bro?

I am being optimistic :)

I do have considerably more confidence in CD Projekt Red, a team that appreciates the PC demographic. Ubisoft treat PC gamers with contempt, I don't really know why they 'support' the platform. Their games are all the same anyway! :p

I think piracy is less now on the pc as someone who is poor can simply wait not very long and grab the title cheap in a sale, and games are buggies on release now than in the past

I remember when I bought Anno 2070 collectors edition from Ubishop for £20. Then things changed. Well at the end of the day they can charge what they want it doesn't mean people will pay for it.

You'd have to go out of your way to spend £55 on a console game, even the supermarkets are usually £44 or thereabouts and you can usually find them for £35ish online.

44.99 in the 90s lol what?

even on consoles it was far from standard, I think the only 45-50 games I bought was re2

I bought my first comp around 2000 and the standard price for games was £20-£30

Plenty of console games were £44.99+ in the 90s, especially when you were constrained by local shops rather than being able to order online. Stuff like the later/updated editions of SF2 on the 16-bit consoles I'm pretty sure used to cost ~£60

You are correct that PC games mostly retailed around the £20-30mark by 2000 though.

you could get classic games for £10 (a few year old 9/10 - 10/10 games)

You still can.

I've said it many times on here in the past but video games are cheaper than they used to be in real terms over the long term. There was a brief period in the early-mid noughties where growing competition in the online space meant the typical price for a PC pre-order was £17.99 or thereabouts but I don't think that was sustainable.
