An hour in a nav beacon is a good way to learn how to identify bounty hunters, traders and pirates. An easy way of fishing out pirates is keeping something in your cargo hold, they'll then reveal themselves pretty quickly after scanning you, by attacking you.

That's exactly what I did. It doesn't have to be anything of value either. I just put in 1 tonne of copper to start with. I believe that when you start combat, the npc's will be matched to you, with many running without shields and poor weaponry. Stupid, but relatively easy kills. I dropped out of supercruise a couple of times on Anacondas with shields. Just turned around and ran. Also came across some ship that automatically bought my high tech cargo finds (computer components) as we passed.

So - my net worth is now 23million. I have a lakon type 7 with decent equipment and FSD so can make some decent jumps. I have found a triangular traderoute where I can make 300k, 200k and 225k on each leg with my 204 cargo capacity. Each leg is only one jump.

I want to get into the python but that is 53m+equipment+cargo+insurance so about 65million minimum.

In short I have a 40million grind ahead of me, in a Lakon7, shipping cargo, around and around and around. So that is about 60 round trips or 180 jumps. The equates to about 16hours solid play just trading.

Any tips on staying sane during the grind ?

I might have to equip out a viper for some combat fun as a reward everytime I make 2 million or something.

rofl :D

Work didn't renew my contract till tomorrow so I had a free week - spent pretty much half the week grinding, went from a net worth of about 20M to 80M..

To stay sane, I just had B movies playing on my other monitor, mostly old 80s sci fi - there are loads of older full length ones on youtube, some are funny as hell too,

I totally recommend not getting a Python until you hit at least 65M as you say, once you kit it out with a good combat loadout, shields and an FSD - the rebuy cost alone is about 2.8M,

Resource extraction sites are a good source of pirates.

Thanks, where would I find these exactly? Are they stations?

Nav points in anarchy systems are usually a good bet.

Also if you're looking for Unidentified Signal Sources then you're best bet is just to go absolute minimum speed in super cruise (should be 30km/sec), that way when they spawn you can just target them and drop out of super cruise immediately rather than wasting time waiting until you decelerate enough to safely drop out. Basically let them come to you rather than you going to them!

Thanks for this. One thing I wanted to ask about pirates, how do you know they are "pirates" as such? By being wanted?

When you are scanning targets a good indication of a pirate:
-most certainly have a cargo scanner under 'sub targets' (left hand panel)
-may have a one word commander name
-get sarcastic comms chatter

Thanks for this. Presumably this is when you have droped out of supercruise at your relevant target (e.g. an unidentified signal)?

Yes, although a word of caution: even if the target is wanted, until the scan is complete and states they are wanted firing on them will result in you being wanted.

Having fun with this. Not played much but decided to upgrade my sidewinder and hunt bigger targets. Killed a few people and have bounties stacking up to claim :). It's odd that now n again I get the Feds shooting me for no reason.

Yep I discovered this some weeks ago, but thanks.

I have to say finding pirates is a bit of a faf....

But I am loving this game :) (and sometimes hate it!)

My tip would be don't bother, why would you want to do something so boring.

There was me,on a return trip rare trading when i make a **** up skimming for fuel! Middle of nowhere, sod all fuel onboard and 7 minutes of air left.

Frantically searching for a station to jump to,managed to leap into a system with a single outpost with the theme from mission impossible playing in my head as i limped towards it,managed to get a docking request 1st time and landed with about 40 seconds left!

Although it would only have been a pita timewise and not money,it was still a wipe the sweat from my brow moment. :D

An even easier way than that is just to look at the messages, you then don't get attacked. Normally something along the lines of "Hold still, this won't hurt" or "how do you people make a living".

If it's not a pirate scanning, it will be "all clear cmdr" etc.

Also a pirate will come up wanted too.

Has anyone found any really spectacular locations yet? I went back to Wunjo the other day but discovered that since the beta-gamma transition it's all changed and is no longer the place it was (I assume because the procedural generation was re-run or something)

I found this place the other day though, really nice system.

Can honestly say I've never had that!

Some large transporter with a name like xxxx technical acquisitions. I'd scanned it a few times in a few systems before I just happened to have some computer components that I'd scooped up following a fight.

It'd be nice if you could buy salvage rights for a sector, so that scooped cargo became legitimate and didn't give you that wanted status. Obviously the cargo would have to be legal in that sector.
