I might stick my backup wheels with their 28mm knobbly tyres on at the weekend and go out on them and do some trails and towpaths. I'll not get blown into a car that way and I won't feel bad about going a bit slower, provided I don't fall in the canal...

Dead chuffed with today's ride, particularly this segment which had me blowing so bad the first time I had to stop half way up

Attempts 2 & 3 I was already 10m in, so a fair comparison would be attempts 1 & 4.

My first ever ride -
34.8km
1hr34m

My 4th ride (having done 30m on NYE) I decided to attack it again with what I've learnt in this short space of time.

34.8km
1hr26m

Admittedly my chain did cause me to coast some of the downhill the first time round and I was missing a top gear on my cassette but nevertheless still a decent improvement :)

Once you're more proficient on the bike you can load it up with a few plates and go hill climbing, amirite? :p

edit: Also, with the above comment I meant mph is superior to km - it wasn't a complaint about your speed :)

im just trying to think of which segment that is, ive ridden it a few times I think as I live around here too

So I currently have a 105 British Thread Bottom Bracket, got myself a Dura-ace one, looks to be very similar sized, but has smaller cups, I'm going to assume this won't fit my bike? My cranks fit fine though.

It's the newer BB for the 5800/6800/9000 cranks. The packet should come with a grey ring which slips over the cups and takes it to the 'normal' shimano BB tool size.

Did my first ride of the year today. Managed 22 miles or so in the cold and that was enough!

Was on the look for a new road bike. Managed to get myself an S-works venge frameset cheap which i couldn't pass on. Never ridden one so may hate the thing :D

Only my second ever road bike being more into mtb but after selling my last one and missing it im looking forward to building this up to ride when the weather picks up.

Ive got pretty much everything apart from groupset and wheels. Undecided on whether to spend the extra on DI2 or stick with mechanical ultegra and spend the extra £500 or so on better wheels. What would you guys do?

Last thing, with the frame being press fit and the cranks needing external BB what adapters would you recommend on a carbon venge? On my stumpy EVO MTB i run a praxxis works adapter. Is this still the best of the bunch?

Thanks

Both Di2 and mechanical ultegra are good but I quite like Di2 the more I work on it.

Better wheels always feel better but even something like RS81s are light enough without going for something daft like Zipp 404s.

The Praxis adapters get reviewed well on Felt bikes but the F1 frame can't run one as it has a carbon BB shell which has steps molded in rather than a flat shell with circlip groves. I don't know the particular frame so best check forums or the spesh site.

What are you training with? I've got 'bored' of the Sufferfests I have (and the Strava Premium ones will not play past the first 10 mins on my tablet) so have used Youtube the last few times... Doing some Z2/3 stuff I watch TV series'!

Films and series generally here to take my mind of it ... although that it only because I'm doing longer tempo intervals atm instead of the threshold/VO2 stuff - its not easy :(

Shorter intervals and 2x20 stuff I can just stick to the radio, you're changing it up too often (or simply counting down the minutes) to really get bored

Thanks Jonny - Ive just downloaded the praxxis .pdf and the venge is compatible. Was concerned maybe the adapter would affect the wiring of the DI2 if i was to go that route but it looks a pretty straightforward fit.

Rather predictably my ride this morning didn't quite go as planned!

Having reindexed the rear mech very successfully I set off on a shorter route than initially planned. Realising very quickly that my front derailleur was not really doing its job very well. Shifting up to the big chainring is fine but when I shifted down the mech wouldn't move at all.

I've had a quick look this afternoon and something either in the downtube or near the BB, or some of the external cable somewhere which is causing resistance so the mech can't pull the cable and drop back on to the small ring.

I'm tempted to just order the Jagwire Road Pro XL and some new bat tape and just redo the lot!

WhT could be causing this anything you've experienced before?

If you were to head out of Aylesbury on the A41 towards Waddesdon, you'll see a regal looking gatehouse on the corner of some crossroads, take the left and it's down there. Takes you through Upper Winchendon and Long Crendon over to Thame :)

Happy to have some company if you don't mind me plodding along at a snails pace behind you :p

Looking at some Castelli bib shorts, using their sizing guide it puts me in a small :/ based on my waist measurement.

5'10" with a 30" leg, 34" waist (on average), with a big ass and large quads (26/27") from squatting. Just wondering how their sizing comes up? if anyones similarly proportioned and could help that would be great :)

I have a Medium sized Altura pair which are bang on.

I think unless you're overweight (which you're not) then you should try to base as much off leg length as possible. For bib tights you're probably good for small based on your height/leg length. I thnk you'll struggle much more with tops and such.
