Cheers guys, will keep it then and chuck it in before majorca.

Kool stop salmon still best overall brake pads? Got a bit of life left in mine but would like some clean ones when km doing some mountain descending.

Nope, SwissStop BXPs.

Get them from Germany and they are usually much cheaper than from UK stores.

Despite the freezing weather I'm heading out for my first ride of the new year tomorrow, albeit carefully! Going easy to get some fitness back after a heavy (and sedentary!) 2 months off the bike.

I keep telling myself it will be warmer by the morning...I'm kidding myself aren't I?!

Once I've got back into it a little I think I'm going to join the LBS weekend rides, not really a new years cycling resolution, but a step in the right direction nonetheless.

Any tips on riding in this cold weather, other than carefully?!

I went for my first ride after over 3 1/2 months off the bike due to a combination of circumstance and lazyness. Nearly killed me and I had to abort after a pitiful 6 miles :p

Lessons I learnt- Don't forget your gloves and the definition of an easy pace has dropped some what since the Autumn :o

Tips - Don't forget your sunglasses because the winter sun is very low. Also don't forget a decent light (rear at least) for the same reason.

I intend on doing a 60k route I last rode in July...I'll see how I feel! I picked up some cheap Bolle glasses and will have lights front and rear, looks like it might be a bit foggy in the morning ING but I'll wait for that to lift I think.

I think my cycling resolution will be to join a cycling club (there's one that meets at the end of my road), bit of a daunting prospect though!

Not having the best luck with Manchester Wheelers. First ride (admittedly somewhat more adhoc than normal but still on their rides list) the guy never showed up. Second ride (this morning) the organiser posted to confirm that the ride was going ahead only to then change his mind 30 minutes later. Lucky that I re-checked the forum just before I was about to set off.

Understandable to cancel today as it's apparently quite icy I guess but still, two rides of messing around in a row is a bit irritating. I could've spent more time in bed.

Slow 90 minutes out to Richmond Park, one lap and back by 8.30.

Chilly and foggy out, but I love riding on mornings like that. This was a shake down ride for the Inflite and it performed admirably. Only issue I have is the Cambium C15 I put on. Lovely and comfortable but squeaks like a nest of rats which kinda spoils the majesty of RP on such a lovely morning.

doesn't sound like a good club too me

That's annoying. If I decide to go riding then I go, only severe conditions would stop me.
See you in a few hours :)

Not much fun, I guess you don't really have a lot of options if it is icy, just stick to the main roads which have been gritted I guess and battle with traffic?:(

Agreed. Though I also generally wouldn't bother getting up super early unless the ride was a particularly interesting one. Starting at 10 or 11 sounds far more sociable to me. On that note, going to see if I can round a few people up for a short ride. Or just go out myself maybe.

They're meant to be a good one so I'm hoping that the last few days has just been a blip. Not great when it's your first experience of a club though.

Yeah, I guess so. It wasn't *that* icy imo though and I know the route they were planning on doing mostly goes down fairly well surfaced and wide roads. It was an intro ride which I technically have to go on before I go on their 'proper' rides.

That was the coldest road ride i've ever done.

You know it's not good when your clothes start to form layers of ice
First hour the temp was -1 with freezing fog, then it gradually got warmer up to 1C. The average temp was 0.4C

Ice on your beard means it was a good ride. I refer you to the rule about riding bad weather making you badass.

I set off this morning in the dark with freezing fog and the average temp was 0c.

I love riding in this weather.

I am very much not badass today. A grim hour on the turbo this morning. I find them such a struggle, especially when you are 20 minutes in and know that you have to do the same again, then again, until its over.

I've not been out since mid dec and not sure when I'll next be out. Thursday night, maybe. 32mph winds due on Saturday - lol no. That's downright dangerous.

DHB stuff will be better than fake stuff from China by a mile. I say that as someone that uses both too :p

The low quality Chinese stuff is great for commuting though. I like not worrying about it getting knackered as it's so cheap to replace.

See the DHB stuff is so good (and such an amazing price) I'll always judge anything else against it... Also means I really will have to spend some pennies to get much better quality gear!

Then again maybe I should just stick to DHB and look at their more expensive ranges than just the Active? Although there are not many colour options, except black! Anyone got any of the 'Vaeon Roubaix' range?

Castelli stocks running low (as expected), only L and XL left are the MTN QHUBEKA Free Aero (£52) and body paint 2.0 (£70) both really are more than I want to spend... Should I be looking at second hand stuff, would any of you guys buy bibshorts second hand? The fact they've been worn before doesn't bother me if I can make a decent enough saving!:p

Stick to travelled roads, most councils are gritting but with the temps remaining below zero through the day (ie no sun) the ice will remain so you're reliant on other road users to have 'cleaned' the surface for you. Around here if I were to head out today (not enough time, may get some turbo done) I'd be tempted to walk to the main road and most of the housing estates around me have not been gritted, have cars everywhere and are still frozen solid (temps only just went above zero so won't thaw much today).

I'm back to cycling my commute this coming week (leave home at 7:15) and I'm crossing my fingers the roads will be kind to me! Last thing I want is an off as I'm snowboarding next week and will damage myself enough doing that without taking injuries with me!:D

First ride of 2015, a new area and route for me.

It defeated me, got my foot stuck in the clip too and had my first fall :(

Something to aim for but I just don't have the ability just yet!

A good ride regardless (quite a bit of climbing!), we all have cleat falls - just be thankful you don't injure/twist something and can carry on! :D

What are you training with? I've got 'bored' of the Sufferfests I have (and the Strava Premium ones will not play past the first 10 mins on my tablet) so have used Youtube the last few times... Doing some Z2/3 stuff I watch TV series'!

Can anyone comment on the Trainerroad training aids/videos?

Means you can do an intense 5 miles with a headwind for some real training! ;)

Cool, blue ones I presume? Bike Discount look to have them in stock.

Anyone use Google Chrome? There's a Strava plug in called StravaPlus, might be useful? https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stravaplus/dhiaggccakkgdfcadnklkbljcgicpckn?hl=en-GB

Only just started using it myself.

Saw this when browsing at work the otherday, forgot to install it though, thanks for the reminder.

First club run of the year, and first for a good 8-10 weeks, still battling the effects of a cold, so not in great form, forgot how hard it was, usually I'm slogging along up the climbs near the front, but kept dropping back today, not by much, and definitely had a hard ride, hope my form gets up when I shift this cold once and for all!
