How to 'cure' racism?

Its always been the way anyone who is different from the norm gets attention and it can be unwelcome attention. Anyone who's fat, thin, tall, short, ginger, any excuse for prejudice. Anyone who stands out from crowd, who's not part of a homogenous whole will likely experience it at some point in their life. Theres a japanese saying, the nail that sticks out gets hammered down. Ancient societies were no different saw an archaelogical dig once there was the remains of someone who had a degenerative bone disease who when they died were simply thrown onto the rubbish heap. He must have had a miserable life.

Exactly correct.

The problem is that the liberal media/PC thought police will brand anyone saying that any ethnic minority / culture or immigration isn't 100% lovely a racist.

Let them brand whoever they want, I'm certainly not losing any sleep over it :) This is the same media that think 'pleb' is a highly offensive term. I couldn't give two hoots about the PC brigade.

Interesting... one would assume the opposite would be true ie. the more time they spent with other races the more it would confirm we are 'all the same' and any percieved differences would evaporate over time... You seem to think the opposite however?

I was thinking the same thing. I believe being thrown into a mix of many different races from a very young age has turned me into someone who cannot be racist and does not need to form immature stereotypes based on colour. Whereas pretty much 99% of racists I've met have confirmed they used to have 1 or 2 black guys at school and were too big of a pansy to get to know them for who they actually are.

The problem with increasing "diversity" is that it ironically removes diversity.

I like visiting different countries and nationalities, just like I'm sure people enjoying visiting various European countries.

Throwing in a mish mash of different people removes this in the long term.

Every dog i have ever met in my adult life has not bit me.

I am still weary when i meet dogs for the first time, by your logic this means i am ignorant, but like the person in your example i choose to be cautious because the outcome of not being on guard is much much worse than the outcome of being proved wrong.

What's that got to do with race though?

Unless you're implying you're only cautious with people other than your own race as opposed to all people in general?

A pit bull can inflict much more damage than say a chihuahua, but you still need to be wary of whether either is agitated/psychopathic/hungry. Just like someone from your own race, while small and puny, can be psychopathic and dangerous, yet a big burly hulk from another race could be the kindest teddy bear in the world.

it has to do with the person in his example nothing more.

Like someone else said, as long as we are all different, racism will always exist.

Difference of opinion, hair and eye colour, interests etc... That's what makes us human, it could be argued that removing ones individuality, although might solve the problem, isn't pheasible. Not that I'm aluding to the "blonde hair/blue eyes" theory

It's only possible to be racist if you're white, so the obvious solution is for whitey to black up.

All jokes aside....

Actually I read somewhere a few weeks ago that Chinese immigrants are getting a terrible time in Africa (from black people)

From what I remember - there are 1 million + Chinese "flooding" into Africa to work in the mining/building industry for even less than the Africans.....In fact they are working on big build projects and paying employees virtually nothing.

Going to have to find the link though....

I find a sharp tap on the nose and a firm 'no' to work wonders. If that fails you can always progress to a squirt from a water bottle, again followed by a firm 'no'.

Racism is caused by over education of the subject.
At school kids are just constantly being reminded that there are differences.
Doesn't matter how big or small they are, eventually the kids will start to hate the fact that they are being forced to accept it.
Teaching racism, only creates racism.

Well this is a pretty stupid comment on one hand, but I understand what you mean.

Kids are born not caring about race, you're right. But to completely ignore the differences in people is not sensible. As kids learn about evolution, different countries, different cultures etc, hopefully they will take an interest in it and realise that the diversity in our appearances is actually interesting, and not something to just be ignored.

There's a Nigerian guy that I work with who I ask quite a few questions of. For example, I wanted to know if he had to go to an African barber because he has that afro curl thing going on. Hopefully he perceives this as me taking interest, not being a dick!

I thought it was the opposite, I think the older and wiser you get the less you care about race. I believe children are inherently racist, and that they need to be taught out of it. When I've observed kids forming groups (during my time at school) they initially form groups based on common attributes, and in the mind of a child, race is a major, if not the only attribute they know.

Like say a black kid is in a class full of 15 white kids and 2 other black kids. He will automatically assume he has more in common with the black kids and will be drawn into friendship with them before thinking about where to start with the white kids. Doesn't mean he hates white kids or will never befriend them, he will just assume he needs more time to associate with them, it's just a starting point for someone to form new friendship when they can visually see something common between them such as skin colour.

So... one of the causes of racism is commonly quoted as being ignorance and/or a lack of education... So what exactly is best cure for a racist? Lets say someone knows they are a racist and want to rectify the situation; what would be their best course of action?

Define the word "racist"?

You make it sound as if it is some sort of disease.

Agreed. The sooner we accept this the better. People (regardless of background) will openly or privately judge people on their looks. It's natural. We as humans pre-judge people. The judgments can be based upon a number of things.

Skin colour
Physical size
facial feats and so on.

Deal with it!
