Fatties gonna fat....

It's more about changing the attitude towards food, get rid of 24/7 availability of foods that leads to pretty generic, bland and horrible vegetables. Educate people how to grow food and and how to cook, how to actually care for themselves.

^Yes the intention was obviously to give fat people one tomato .

One thing, neither of them is likely to claim much pension. However the cost of supporting them during their lifetime will far exceed any state pension provisions.

I am a strong believer that schools should be teaching life lessons to kids from early ages.

We feed the mind with maths, science and history but very little on nutrition, healthy eating, exercise, mortgages, debts, taxes, politics, etc. My daughter is 3 and will chose grapes and banana's over chocolate any day.

You're right in that dead beats don't manage money etc, but what if no one ever taught them how or the importance of it? it is a viscous circle where the kids end up like the parents.

Fyi, food vouchers etc would get sold for less than face value.

People should also be encouraged to grow more of their own fruit and veg.

perhaps more kids should take home ec... that teaches nutrition.

My father raised us to think that getting fat was wrong. This was in the form of comments should we consistently be eating bad foods, and outright telling us we'd put on weight.

Looking back, it was probably a bit cruel, but as a result his 4 children are all conscious of our weight and none of us are over our 'recommended'.

As example, my weigh in this morning has seen me put on 1kg over the xmas period. I'm going to be getting some decent exercise in and 'correct' my eating habits until I've shed the excess weight and all will be well.

Our mother was always against this method, but the result has been good from a health point of view!

Yeah I agree with you quite strongly. Although these people have a duty to themselves to look after themselves, there is a huge lack of education in nutrition, and I also think that the government should do more to regulate extremely unhealthy food.

Actually it's more a case that they know the government will pay whatever. They will pay for the food, medical bills, special equipment in their house to move around, mobility scooter and if they decide to try and lose weight then all the specialists fees, fitness sessions etc etc.

Totally agree with you and AHarvey, they should absolutely be teaching life skills in schools, far more important then some of the subjects kids are forced to learn.

I remember the last lesson of secondary school, all exams were done, we were basically there to sort out various coursework portfolios we had done and one classmate said to the teacher, "we're out of here after today and expected to go to work or university but I don't even know how to write out a cheque" - the teacher then proceeds to photocopy a bunch of his cheques for each student and we learn how to write a cheque... sounds simple but it's something I'll never forget... but I won't allow my children not to know these basic life skills by that age.

also saving further money in treatments which shouldn't even be available on the NHS such as Gastric Bands.

Gastric bands in many cases save the NHS significant amounts of money because of the ongoing costs of obesity related and caused health issues like diabetes and numerous other problems that occur when people are significantly overweight.

I think their weight and problem has come to a point where they cant do anything about it on their own. And yes they could lose weight but I dont think it would be possible on their own as their mental health wont most likely let them. Food can be addictive and over eating is an addiction same as some people are alcoholics and these people need help rather than tv show watching their life.
If they dont get help then death isnt going to be very far away.

No one really cares its just a good way to vent anger on a tuesday morning at a minority or sub culture. These threads come up every two weeks. We will be back to Muslims and xenophobic politics soon enough.

I'd vote for that.
