I tried to use it last night for the first time, you know since Bungie decided to give me FOUR of them it must be good, right? Wrong! After 3 minutes trying to use it and my team mates running off whilst I struggled to kill low-level Cabal in the Weekly Heroic I wanted to hurt myself. Never again.
3 x Monte Carlos in two weeks.
Once a weapon drops it gives it you again and again.... and again.

One of everything else through drops or Xur. Never a Gjallarhorn or Icebreaker and couldn't afford them at the time. I'm having issues getting a chest piece to drop from the new raid, just keep getting energies, shards, boots & gloves across three characters.

I've noticed this as well. Last week I finished vog on hard 3 times and each time I got the vex. It's starting to become annoying as all I want is the fate bringer and gayhorn.

You can get rep up doing any bounties....but you will need crucible marks in order to buy Dead Orbit gear. You only get 3 crucible marks per win, 2 per loss....so around 30 matches for chest/boots/gloves, and around 50 for the helm.
It's not the best way to gear up to be honest. At level 22 I would be doing vanguard bounties and public events. Go to the cosmodrome and use this site

Just head to wherever on the map the timer is near zero and do the events. You should be able to do all of them, although soloing 'Eliminate The Target' ones can be a pain if they are shielded and you don't have the right gear. I think you get 4 vanguard marks per event, plus ascendant materials (which you'll need for upgrading legendary gear), XP and glimmer.
Clearly doing something wrong... Level 30 Hunter with 80 hours in it and I have never had a single Exotic drop in the game. Only had one Legendary in that time as well.
Did VoG for the first time over Xmas with a group of 29/30s. Took us 10 hours and we all got absolutely nothing at the end...
I used to have this sort of luck in Diablo 3. Put in over 100 hours of that and never saw a single lengendary drop...

I would make sure you level up Vanguard (and maybe Crucible) to Rank 3 before you start ranking up the factions.
When you are wearing a faction item, all of the EXP you earn through bounties, strikes etc count purely towards that faction (there are some exceptions for unique vendors e.g. Eris)
Additionally, Dead Orbit can be ranked from any EXP so normal PvE and Crucible PvP. However, you can only buy things from the three factions with Crucible marks.

Have you done any Nightfalls? Roc strikes are good for exotics and legendaries as well.

Had everything bar Thunderlord, Gjallar & Icebreaker pre Crota. Knew I wouldn't spend 8k glimmer each to upgrade them so sharded everything I didnt use. Sitting on 30 exotic shards atm and almost have my complete collection back from drops alone.
Most of the time I am now running around with a 294 attack hand "rare" handcannon I picked up in the ROC.
It has basically a maxed impact bar, exploding rounds and also have 9 bullets in the clip.
Even on the level 30 weekly heroic it was still holding its own.
Best part about it was not having to waste any ascendant materials to get a gun that can still hold its own in end game content.

Amazing gun for a "Rare", just need one with the right perk, so far, I've had 3 and not the perk I'm hoping for yet. You're lucky to get the one with exploding rounds!

I can't get the PS4 exclusives, but of the Xbox weapons I'm only missing Red Death and GjallarHorn.

I had two rare hand cannons drop back to back. The first was an orange one with what looks at first glance to be a silencer (it isn't). Basically the same as polite denial but not quite as nice (lower impact, higher ROF & only 8 rounds).
