FreeSync monitors hit mass production, coming in Jan-Feb

No, no it's not. How is that even remotely the same thing? You can't supersed something with something that currently works on one vendors equipment. Unless you're saying this will sway the overal marketshare way, way in the other direction.

If they were worried about AMD in any respect they wouldn't be dry humping an already clustered mobile market.

They've said they've no plans, so unless that's a devious way of, I don't know, say losing customers, then I would imagine they genuinely-have no plans :p

Look at it as Adaptive Sync is the technology competition against g-sync rather than Freesync.

Adaptive Sync has support from AMD already and as its an "open" technology from VESA others like Intel could implement it.

So yes its very much the same thing, although Adaptive Sync is later to the game than G-Sync it has a much better possibility of "winning" (i say that as if someone will win a prize)

G-Sync is very limited in market share because :-
  • Nvidia Only
  • Monitor HW costs more
  • Monitor makers need to "buy" G-Sync from nvidia

All of these work to help Adaptive Sync supporters

I think it would be silly if nvidia doesn't support the display port standard, its an open standard that any manufacturer can adopt. If they dont they would be actively forcing a wedge in the market.

Note I said "display port standard" nvidia can make use of this and still call it whatever they want gsync 2.0 or whatever.

LOL, Ok so on that note its fair to say that AMD are actively forcing a wedge in the market with Mantle even though they launched it first.

Also I just have to add that £200 saving in manufacturing costs, will probably only turn out to be a £50 saving to the consumer if that. :)

And I've no doubt Adaptive Sync users will be happy with their purchase using Free Sync. Still not sure how this affects Nvidia users. You just have to understand that Gsync as a consumer choice, probably only amounts to small percentage of users. "Oh I can't use freesync. Suppose AMD is my only option then." Not quite.

You're confused as gsync isn't limited in marketshare at all. Just look at discrete GPU marketshare. You're confusing how excited you are by the prospect of Adaptive Sync not being locked down with how this is of any actual concern to Nvidia.

If AMD dont allow any out GFX card makers to use the API then yes it is, as you have the sections cards that can use mantle and those that cant.

Adaptive Sync is open to anyone who makes display port devices (this includes nvidia) so if they now choose not to make use of it they are making consumers (who care about adaptive refresh) make a choice between Adaptive Sync technologies (like FreeSync) or G-Sync

I am excited about Adaptive Sync but that's only because its baked in (somewhat) to display port. If i buy a Adaptive Sync compatible monitor it will work with any vendors implementation down the line being it from nvidia, AMD or intel

Nice simulation video.

I'm still waiting for some real live demo of this tech. NVidia had Gsync demos running with loads of video's available to see it. AMD have had... 0

Is that telling, or ?

Its being demoed at CES, what one tech journalist had to say.

Good times are ahead my friends.

Looking forward to trying it out myself soon.

video is so brash!
AMD prefer slides its more dignified.

Agree, and I'm not saying it's a fair choice locking people in, but that's different to saying its a practice that doesn't work for them.
