And while the religious leaders of the 99% of decent, peaceful Muslims on this planet refuse to publicly denounce such terrorist acts; they and the people they represent will be thought to tacitly support such atrocities.

You mean like this?

Muslim Council of Great Britain said:
Charlie Hebdo Attack

The Muslim Council of Britain condemns this attack. Whomever the attackers are, and whatever the cause may be, nothing justifies the taking of life.

I believe this is not about religion this is about disillusionment and ignorance in the young people (2nd generation immigrants mostly) who are being targeted and recruited by evil men who just want power

This is about exploitation...the Nazis did it....the Stalainists did it....Pol Pot did it in Cambodia etc... This is not as new a phenomenon as people think, it is just wearing a different face.

We had it Northern Ireland too, Catholics v Protestants and that wasn't about religion then either, some were using history to justify terror and power.

The key is the silent majority and the key is for them not to stay silent, but in the right way. This attack was to provoke us (the West), and it's working unfortunately. We should act... but not in the way they want or expect (i.e. not guns blazing in response). We need to be brave, but in the right way.

Sadly there are ignorant people on the "other" side of the fence too who also want chaos and there will be a lot more of this provocation... more attacks... and it will go on for a long time sadly :(

Great start to 2015! :/

Douglas Adams nailed it with:

"Human Beings are unique in their ability to learn from their own mistakes, but are also unique in their apparent disinclination to do so"

Probably a very minority opinion, but I can't help but feel they brought this on themselves by poking the sleeping bear with constant jokes about Mohammed.

But it is about religion, the offenders tell us it is, that commit these acts in the name of Islam.

Now that may be uncomfortable for some people but it is sadly then truth.

I'm with Freefaller, terrorism is about control, intimidation and violence. In this instance, the name of Islam is just a tool used by people to as an excuse to commit acts of aggression.

If it wasn't for religion, these people would find something else to latch onto.

Mario Balotelli gets punished by the FA for making jokes about "People of colour" and Jews.

Dave Whelan is banned and fined for making jokes about the Chinese people and Jews.

Anyone who makes and "homourous" jokes about Jews, the bizarrely described "People of colour" or Homosexuals is leapt upon by the righteous but the same standard is not applied to people who ridicule Islam.

Any belief in a supreme being is retarded and should be ridiculed. One standard should be applied to ALL or NONE, including Jews, "People of colour", Homosexuals, etc.

We are all Charlies!

You can mock Judaism all you like. But Jews are an ethnic group, which is where you fall foul of the law.

I wonder when the muslim leaders here will go out on the street with banners protesting about these islamist terrorists?

The NORMAL Muslims love doing this kind of thing, so their leaders should be out there doing the same.

I'll respectfully agree to disagree :)

I respect that but it doesn't change the fact that they did this because they are Muslims.

People have done things as bad if not worse irrespective of being Muslim as I already explained:

The carrier here is the name of Islam, but it's not about Islam it's not about anything other than megalomania and power, and intimidation. They're just using Islam as a catalyst for it.

I must have missed theses public denouncements as I rarely seem to hear any of them rush to denounce any atrocity and certainly not in this country except when it seems that with a camera in their face they really have no option but to do so.

I agree with what you are saying Freefaller to some extent. The problem is that by and large we went to war (cold or hot) to remove such stains from the humanity. And yet this time we do not. That is unless you think all Russians were Stalinists, all Germans and Austrians were Nazis, etc.
