*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

So there's a theory going round on the Bungie forums that Xur will be selling Gjallarhorn or Ice Breaker this week. I'm sure the same thing is said every week, but the thinking behind it is there's apparently an increased drop rate for weapons in the week leading up to Xur's arrival.

Completely subjectively, there does appear to be a higher number of people reporting they've received Gjallarhorn or Ice Breaker this week (I myself finally got Ice Breaker, to add to my existing Gjallarhorn :D).

Anyway, there's probably no truth to it at all, but maybe it'll get someone's hopes up on this bleak, rainy Thursday :)

If CE Hard Mode is more shooting endlessly at enemies several levels above you I'm just going to give it a miss (apart from cheeses). Bring on House of Wolves.

The seeking on the missiles on Truth is crazy. You don't always want tracking however! So it's nice to have an alternative that doesn't come with it.

Truth for PVP - Gjallahorn for PVE

Initial Rkt Dmg 2402 2402 2402
Secondary Rkt 756 794 794

WP Secondary 112

Meh, formatting messed up but Ghorn does the most damage, then Hezen and lastly Truth.

Machine Gun for PVP - Gjallahorn for PVE

:D

As much as I like the Gjallahorn, it's not so great in PvP as you need kills to win, not taking out individual or the odd grouping of control points / group rushers within a certain area.

Machine gun with loads of ammo e.g. ZA 47 works wonders as 3 to 5 bullets = death, making 1 clip last longer if you have the apt and chance to aim.

Funny you should mention that, I also got my Gjallarhorn this week. I actually had a great week in general after months of awful luck. Gjallarhorn, Mythoclast and Willbreaker's Watch.

People always quote the damage of gorn but you very really get a direct impact that dishes all that. Truth aggressive tracking means good accuracy, it has a massive blast radius, Void damage (so great for VoG and any Vex really), fast rockets and fast reloads. They're both very good but I'd go with Truth over the two as it is good in both PvE and PvP. However, going with the legendary alternative might be better dpeending on your loadout (I love Thorn).

Its not as black and white as you make it, if someone with golden gun catches you with a machine gun, you're dead. Maybe someone else on the other team also has a machine gun, in which case you could also die with nothing to show for it. A gjallarhorn user will at least draw even in a 1v1, as when the rocket is released its a guaranteed kill. I've also blind fired it more than a few times when I know someone around the corner is using golden gun or I know there's a group capping a point. A machine gun may last longer but that doesn't necessarily make it better for PVP than a tracking rocket.

If that's from the same reddit post I read a while back, those numbers will be based off the older 300 attacks weapons. Hezen Vengeance is stuck at 300 so I'd hazard a guess that the hunger of crota and the One Way Ticket are better now.

People go on and on about ice breaker, it's only good for camping in 19 situations out of 20 black hammer is better.

You can kill the guy in the tank in less than a minute with the black hammer, same goes for those walker things with the 6 legs.

If your in a cheese spot like under the ramp against the guy in the weekly/nightfall, then you want ice breaker as you don't want to leave cover for ammo.

Black hammer is now the best PvE sniper in the game unless your camping.

I have both and I hardly ever switch to ice breaker now.

It's also missing BLAST RADIUS.

The Truth will wipe out a whole squad with its blast radius, ghorn won't.

G'horn excels against one enemy, for every other situation your probably better off with a different launcher.

Templar and Atheon, etc is where it shows it's power.

I would like to see hunger of crota in action fully upgraded though because Hezen is amazing.

That is exactly why an LMG is better for PvP than rockets. In situations where you will loose your heavy like meeting someone else with heavy ammo or a super the rocket has a small advantage in that your kd is 0 against -1 with an LMG. The flipside is though when you don't get taken out you will get many more kills with an LMG than rockets.

I'm sorry no way is Black hammer better than Icebreaker in 19 situations out of 20. The 2 situations you mentioned, the tank and the walkers are where Black hammer excels. It's weakness is the 3 ammo clip, and needing precision shots for white nail to take affect. Ice breaker is the better overall gun for 60% of the game. And because of the white nail perk it is just as much a camping gun as Ice breaker. Black hammer is an amazing gun, and in some instances better then Ice (more damage white nail) but no where near 19 out of 20.

I always aim for precision shots though when using any weapon apart from rocket launchers.

Hand Cannon - Precision shots
Sniper - Precision shots

also you can take your time in between shots, that HUGE ogre you have to kill where people hide behind the rock. I was hitting him in the sack, waiting for him to recover then hitting him again, then waiting for recover then hitting him for a third time. I got my ammo replenished even with the waiting a couple of seconds inbetween.

It's useful is a lot more situations, basically with enemy enemy that doesn't fly about like mad (wizards and witches) or has OP weapons with huge spash damage (nexus and cerberus vae).

I killed that big ogre in record time with black hammer, atheon and templar would be easy to precision shoot too.

I even go for precision shots with machine guns and auto rifles, they suppress the enemy as well as do more damage. Archon Priest was tore apart by black hammer from the cheese ledge.

You can honestly take your time you don't need to pop 3 shots off quickly. Don't take too long though obviously.

It also deals more damage than icebreaker. The worst thing is that it takes 5 seconds to replenish one bullet and you can only hold 6 max with the IB. If you have a ton of enemies your waiting for ammo or having to switch weapons.

I would rather have black hammer and either truth or mythoclaust than icebreaker in most situations.
