When do you know a dealer has nothing else to give..

With lease deals at least you can sign them remotely but they won't order or process the car until 2 weeks have passed due to distance selling regulations and the ability to change your mind.

I got round this by finding the closest franchised dealership and getting my Mrs to sign it in person to waive our right to the 2 week cooling off period.
 
You didn't like it when someone above mentioned this but negotiation works two ways. If you provide a list of demands then don't expect to get them all met. Perhaps a fair compromise is to ask for the warranty and pay for the style pack? What's £175 in the grand scheme of things when buying a £15k car?

I already have compromised on a few things, this is like the final stages :p. I am just trying to gauge whether they are now playing hard ball and seeing if I will cave (knowing they could probably lose a bit more money on it) or whether they just genuinely don't have enough margin left on the car.

The style pack equation is bugging me though. Before the 31st December Ford were putting these on St's for free for cars ordered by the 31st Dec 2014 and delivered by the 31st March 2015. Now they must have bought these cars they have in stock before the 31st December so presumably Ford put the style pack on them for free. Or (as I have suggested) they could at least call Ford to see if they will let them have the style pack free of charge seen as the car was technically ordered/built (by the dealership) before 31 Dec 14 and it will be delivered by March 31st 2015 :p
 
Have you given them them the nod that if they give this discount the deal will go through.

Sometimes I find when people are trying to drive price down with me they have no intention of signing up to the service, it's just to play me off against someone else.

You might of just spooked them and they can't be arsed with the running around as they don't think they are going to get the sale anyway.

That would make sense if DSR wasn't 2 weeks after receiving the item ;)

Those sites really get you to the lowest price you're going to get. The additions you are requesting do cost money so not sure what you would like them to do? They can't sell a car at a loss.

Ford were putting these on FOC but that doesnt mean the dealer can suddenly do this. The "free option" you mention is done at manufacturer level and therefore does not impact the dealer when they give it to you as Ford UK will pay the dealer the cost of the FOC product. You are asking for the dealer to supply a previously FOC product which is not FOC to them any longer.


And £435 may be "nothing to Ford" but, again thats the dealer NOT the manufacturer you are asking to absorb the cost.



Edit: so to answer you original question - The dealer may actually be all out with the discounts they have given already as the stuff you want is not FOC to the dealer.

That's the policy they follow, they will not order your car until 2 weeks after the order is placed. It may not be referred to as DSR, I may have made a mistake there, but that's how they operate. It's ridiculous!
 
You are right, they do refer to it as a cooling off period. I guess that's the same as any financial product, right? Not sure why signing in person changes things considering it's the same finance product.
 
Are you 'talking to them' via email, or actually 'face to face' in their showroom?

In my experience very few salesmen... especially if you are dealing with their Sales Manager... which you are probably doing by now anyway, will let a customer, who is ready willing and able to 'sign on the dotted line' there and then, walk out of the showroom, knowing that he will then go and buy elsewhere.

If they are willing to do that, then you have definitely pushed them as far as they will go!

Well, I walked away and they never came back with anything lower. I stated the deal I wanted but they said they just couldn't do it. I think they genuinely were giving me everything they had (captain! :p).

Fortunately, another local dealership pretty much matched the broker price after taking into account options e.t.c, so I've got one ordered :D
 
Pleased to hear that you got there in the end.

Although it can be quite time consuming, I think it is always worth exploring other dealers, if only to ensure that you are getting the best possible 'deal'.

Even after the sale has been completed, if you happen to feel that the level of service or attention you received fell below the standard you expected, a meeting with the general manager of the dealership concerned can often result in a further 'offering' being made... as I found out earlier this week.

Main Dealers (especially in rural areas) do not like unhappy customers, as bad news travels faster than good, so they will often be prepared to put their hands a bit further into their pockets (again!) as a gesture of goodwill, and in the interest of good customer relations! :)
