**** Sony Xperia Z3 ****

OEMs can add their own fixes for their versions though can they not?

Got the Z3 back, Sony didn't repair it.............

.......... They replaced it :D :D

The engineer's paper states "Exchange and software update" - The IMEI in is my Z3 but the IMEI out is another Z3, the replacement is brand new, still had the screen sticker things on both sides too.

Not bad.

Good news!

Bet you can't wait to get stuck back into setting up the phone now :P

Trust me just holding it gives a sigh of relief, something solid built and non plastic once again :p

It will take me ages to set all my apps and stuff back up, sadly no Lollipop so can't selectively choose what to restore via Play Store. Meh.

Does the Sony Companion backup and restore tool work? I've backed up my phone but not tried a restore yet.

No idea, never used the bundled software^

The screen protector is just the protective film for when shipping.

Thanks for that mate. Have you rooted/unlocked the bootloader. And Amazon has it for £475, might hold of too my next pay check as I just booked a holiday and brought my brother a watch for £430 xD.

No worries Mate. I haven't rooted or unlocked the bootloader as I'm happy with Sony's software and don't intend to flash any custom roms or kernels.

I guess with Christmas just gone money is tight for everyone. It's probably a good idea to wait anyway. The price might drop further :)

Noooo way! That's a result mrk! Sony customer service rocks :)

Shame you'll have to install everything again though, what a pain in the backside. What version is the software on your phone now?

All back to normal now mate :) To be fair I did use the "!email us" form as the repair wa staking so long I was getting annoyed and said if it didn't arrive this week then I wanted a direct replacement as an exercise of my consumer rights (!).

I got no reply to that of course but the next day the system emailed me saying the Z3 was on its way back to me :p

Software version is 23.0.1.A.5.77 - update centre says this is the latest version, the engineer note says they updated to the latest too. Roll on Lollipop

Mostly its games, I hate losing the data for them, could use helium and not have to worry about it. I'm kind of over the whole custom rom/kernel business these days as I'm far to busy anyways.

Money isn't super tight but I rather have a nice amount of savings just incase the worst happens, and I did recently move jobs so I'm still in probation so best to be cautions, even if its going smashingly. Either way its 2 - 3 weeks away which is not too bad.

As a curious question since I don't have too many apps right now, which ones would you use and find useful?

Searching the play store when bored doesn't provide too many results. :(

I can't really answer that as every app I use is geared toward how I use my phone so may not necessarily be useful to how someone else uses their phone.

State how you use your phone, what you do on it and then app recommendations could be put forward.

Yup agreed. All depends what your needs are. Glad your phones sorted mate. I too had to send my note 4 for repairs recently

Just look through the 500 most popular apps (will take you about 10 mins) then search for any functionality you think you're missing.

Only thing I don't really use it for is car navigation as I don't own one. Anything else really is fair game, especially coming from the locked down iOS. :D

Productivity, automation, just general handy trackers and so on.

Ah yeah, Evernote is bundled by default (Note 3 user here, fyi.) :D

IFTTT looks quite nice, I'm used to Tasker being recommended for automating things but this looks nice.

What can IFTTT do that Tasker or Trigger can't? I use the latter 2 and I feel I haven't even scratched the surface for what they can achieve.

I use them for things like quickly disabling my lockscreen, enabling vibrate mode if I'm in the radius of certain cell tower masts (i.e. when I'm at work), enabling auto rotate only when I open certain apps, toggling a bluetooth car mode (max volume, enable bluetooth, connect to head unit etc.), and I like that you can combine the 2, so I can create a Trigger toggle which implements a Tasker script, and I also like that I can create shortcuts on my homescreen for the tasks.

Ah in that case then:

Clipper Plus.
Brilliant clipboard manager and snippet organiser. Will sync across Android devices too.

Pushbullet.
Send and receive anything from text to files and links cross platform between pc, tablet, phone etc etc. Firefox and Chrome extensions exist.

Cerberus.
For when you want to track and manage your phone if it gets lost.

Various "small apps" in Play Store.
Install what you need, I have a small pop-up youtube player, currency converter and so on.

GSam Battery Meter.
Used for tracking battery usage history and predicting charge life, handy tool for getting more info on what is consuming battery too. Has no negative impact on performance or battery.

DiskUsage.
Graphs out disk usage by directory for internal and SD card. Useful for seeing what apps plonk the most data on to local storage and then dealing with it.

MX Player with custom audio codes.
Plays anything from anywhere.

ES File Explorer.
The best file Manager. I use it to cross manage documents between pc over wifi, other devices, and accessing network shares etc. It has a unique interface that's very logical and easy to flick between windows to copy and paste files to and from. This includes ftp, Bluetooth and the like.

Google Keep.
For keeping lists, short notes and memos etc and even can keep snippet images and so on. It's synchronised with Google so is available directly on the web too which makes it an epic tool to use when you want to keep random data on the move that will need later etc.

Got my GFs Z3 back from repair last week - sent it off on the 29th, it arrived back on the 10th.

Like mrk the IMEI in/out was different, so it looks like they've just replaced it.

Other than me having to set it all up again, she's happy to have her Z3 back, after having to use her old S2 for a couple of weeks.

Why do they take so long if they are just going to issue a new handset!

Just waiting on Lollipop now :D
