Shooting at French Satirical Magazine

Can I ask a question that may have already been asked and answered but what does the (saw) bit relate to when people write about the Prophet Mohammed?

I have never until recently seen (or just failed to realise) this. Would google but mobile internet is patchy at the moment.

Absolutely sickening report on Radio 4 this morning from High Wycombe, where a Pakistani restaurant owner they interviewed was saying the Charlie Hebdo attack victims deserved their fate for insulting the prophet Mohammed. I hope the BBC report this guy to the authorities and he can be put on a watch/no-fly list. These sort of views are unacceptable imo. To be fair to the BBC, the reporter (didn't catch her name) at least gave him a hard time over his views. Worrying she also said that his views weren't uncommon in the area, but he was the only one she could get to put his views on record.

err so how do you reconcile this little difference?

one says mutilate people (clearly if your hacking someones hands and feet off that is not self defense either) and the other says don't mutilate people.

which is it?

How do you reconcile the bible? Old testamant vs new testamant? Different ways of thinking from different times. I think it's been said many a time, Islam needs its reformation.

From my Google-Fu I believe it is an abbreviation of Sall Allāhu 'alay-hi wa-sallam

Loosely translated as "May Allah honour him and grant him peace".

Just a variation on PUB (peace be upon him) I think?

Im sure some of the Muslims in the thread will be along to explain though.

Did anyone hear Radio 4 this morning? They interviewed "people" in High Wycombe and quite a few thought that the magazine was a fault and that you can't make fun of the prophet. One said he loved the prophet more than his mum and dad...

Farage is correct

I posted about it a few posts up :p He loves his prophet more than his kids too. Farage is right, people like this guy will not be integrated into our society - they are a fifth column.

You beat me to it. I couldn't believe I was hearing that this morning

You can't undo that amount of brainwashing

Do any of the Muslim bashers on this have any Muslim friends? Or at least any in their social circles?

I consider myself more of a "nutters that are prepared to murder me for saying something that they don't like" basher, but I'll bite.

I have several Muslim co-workers (telecoms team) and have tried to get their opinion on the Paris shootings on several occasions over the last few days.

These are people I've worked closely with for a couple of years and join in all the non-drinking social events and banter in the office. I wouldn't call them friends anymore than I would any of my co-workers, but we get along fine on both personal and professional levels.

Without fail, each of them reacted like I'd just asked to borrow their wives for a bukkake marathon and suddenly had to be somewhere else to deal with an urgent work task.

So I'm none the wiser as to what your average British Muslim's views on this matter might be.

It is sadly not uncommon. Sacred cows and all the rest.

Religion poisons everything®. :(

Considering it sounds like you picked them out to discuss it because they were muslim it's not exactly unexpected they wouldn't want to discuss it, especially if they already believe you may have certain pre conceived ideas (if you agree with Scorza, dowse. Et Al). Is so exactly the same!

Yeah, don't ever try to correct their mistakes and misconceptions, by all means. Don't rock the boat, especially yours. Just... walk out. Whistling, preferably.
