Also they(scum) must have seen the riots in the UK and notice how the police couldn't cope.
Wouldn't surprise me if they(scum) take more hostages before the end of the day.

Gendarmerie is military. It's kind of an odd concept. Police forces are municipal.
GIGN is their super-action team, like the SWAT. They will not storm a place without knowing everything about it. They rarely 'wing it', like in Flight 8969.

When the perpetrator is a Muslim the nature of the dialogue changes - in reality I'd argue they are all mentally ill deranged mass murderers (those willing to kill civilians).

The problem is you can't prepare for random attacks.
Yes you can prepare for Tube stations. Airports etc.
But when a couple of gunmen pick a large but random town say Swindon how are we supposed to react quickly.
Why do you keep saying this over and over? The UK is a much smaller land mass and a smaller population. We are also an island. We wouldn't need this amount of police presence and have special forces that are more than capable of handling hostage situations like this.
Why odd, just the way they do it? At least it means they have the firepower to deal with this kind of incident. Can't wait for our PCSO's to get stuck in once it kicks off here.

Just like the Taliban scum who carried out the Peshawar school attack last month; 130ish kids killed.
Real tough guys these Jihadi's - targets like unarmed kids and cartoonist. Cowardly scum.

I do not know what they are trying to achieve with this. But then, these idiots aren't recruited for their sharp wits. It's not gonna be all out riots. This is not the US. It's not gonna start a war.
All they'll do is undermine their own position. Blood-thirsty bullies of the lowest kind who like to pick on the little smart-arse kid.
Charlie Hebdo in particular is seen as part of the anti-establishment press. Like Canard Enchaine (similar to Private Eye). They have a lot of support and sympathy from the down-trodden.
Bah, religious nuts. The sooner they grow up, the better.
Ok, let's hope you're right on this one. I'd rather we be prepared for this kind of thing.
Just one thing though... remember the Derrick Bird shooting? There were police officers who could have stopped him but didn't because they were unarmed and therefore unprepared for this situation.
Let's see how all this plays out, I seriously doubt we could get the amount of firepower together that would be needed in case of a massacre.

You said you respected the Taliban cowards for 'standing up for what they believed in' when they killed all those kids in school. It's people like you that concern me more and your transparent attempts at downplaying the role of Islam played with these cowards.
Well these deranged murderers haven't killed any kids and as a matter of fact choose not to kill the mother and daughter that let them into the building, so it's rather disingenuous to associate these horrible killers at that level!
This would indeed be a valid point elmarko. However, if we determined a pattern of behaviour caused that mental illness then we would ban that behaviour, if we determined a chemical caused the mental illness we would ban it, and if we determined parents had caused that by their behaviour we would term it abuse.
