Russia bans transsexual and transgender people from obtaining driving licences

Why is there not the same outcry over women driving in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi law requires citizens to use a locally issued licence while in the country. Such licences are not issued to women, thus making it effectively illegal for women to drive.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's_rights_in_Saudi_Arabia#cite_note-108http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's_rights_in_Saudi_Arabia#cite_note-108

Cos we're not allowed to bad mouth that part of the world, if we do they get all murdery.

The ban is a total disgrace though. I can't see how being one gender or a specific sexuality could have any outcome on driving skill. It is just a vaguely veiled way to further marginalise those sectors of Russian society.

And many people, the compassionate and non-idiotic ones, don't care at all. Fortunately, that accounts for most of our population.

I'm delighted that we have digressed from Christian roots as I'd much rather live in a society based on evidence with at least an aim at equality, rather than what religious fanatics, such as yourself, would like.

I have found the most hateful and intolerant people I have met to be professed atheists. Just look at the Charlie Hebdo guys for example. They didn't deserve to die but they were hateful and intolerant bigots.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that religion is bad and because you don't have any belief you are somehow better or more "enlightened"

I have found many atheists to be like that, but it's primarily towards religious people. I've found them primarily to be the people most inclined to judge others on their own merits; not their gender or, in particular, sexuality.

Atheists are judgemental because they often feel that they have to win through against thousands of years of faith based religion.

...essentially those Parisians who like the Pope are as dumb as the n word. (I don't want to get banned here for using it)

Are they being more intolerant of Catholics or of black people? I'm unsure....

Is there a growing membership of neo-nazis and other far-right extremist groups in USA right now?

I think his point is that the US is (allegedly, I have no first hand experience) one of the most racist countries on the planet. They actually continue to have a form of apartheid in many places.

So yeah, being black in some places in the US probably isn't any different from being black in Russia.

Technically yeah but we aren't machines that have been programmed to be one thing or anothing.

Uhh yes you are, gender identity is a result of thought not what is physically true. 'Tis but one of many possible delusions people enjoy seemingly. Also not saying i care, but it is incredibly annoying to find people that expect you to call them "it" or some other fascinating identity.

(Yes i know there are physical ailments where gender becomes awkward, but at least the physical would actually align with the mental)

At the same time I would wager, large parts of the population probably do not like the same along with other things like foreigners, immigrants, Muslims, Jews etc. They just tolerate it because they have/forced to.

PS: I am not agreeing with any of the above before someone jumps to that conclusions as per typical of the forum.

You'd think a forum full of tech minded people would be open minded and tolerant of the world, guess not.

Have never seen so many ignorant, arrogant, homophobic, racist, bigots in one place.

You can't force your opinion or worldview on other people though. If someone doesn't like homosexuals or black people, then they should have the right to hold that view, it's part of a free society isn't it? So where it becomes a problem is when they start discriminating or abusing and attacking others because of it.

..... I can't see how being one gender or a specific sexuality could have any outcome on driving skill. .....

But they are not saying that are they.

They are suggesting that people who exhibit certain strongly obsessional/compulsive behavioural traits (Of which they are claiming transsexualism and fetishism are examples, but which also include other examples that have nothing to do with sex) may prove to be significantly more dangerous behind the wheel than people who do not.

I have no idea whether or not this is statistically justified

(Though, as I said before. I can certainly see how there might be a link with compulsive gambling)

But I would be interested to know if there is any hard science to either support or debunk their position.

You are talking rubbish mate. Would you rather the islamic attacks came to city near you?

Russia is a straight up no bs society, which is why they don't have the filth and rubbish that we have to put up with in Europe.

The first line of this post doesn't seem to make much sense considering the problems Russia has had with Islamic extremists.

The second sentence doesn't make that much sense either though so it is probably no surprise.

Russia is regressing as far as human rights are concerned, they're slowly distancing themselves from the west at the moment. I do think perhaps the west ought to have made more of an effort after the end of the cold war... instead we essentially stuck a middle finger up at them, put our efforts into the former Soviet satellite states and watched as Russia defaulted/entered a financial crisis...

what do you mean by 'filth and rubbish'?

They are suggesting no such thing. It's obvious there is no connection.

This is merely an attempt by the Russian guberment to make TG and TS peoples lives more difficult in Russia.
