How do people handle their drink?

Drink lots of water before you go out. Drink water between rounds (or when you order a round). Drink water when you get home.

4 Pints is a lot of alcohol, between 10-12 "units" which is half the weekly allowance. Depending on how quickly you drink it you can get pretty intoxicated, my advice would be to drink less.

I think it's down to rate of inebriation. Drinking 5 pints of beer has negative effects from bloating compared to drinking two double vodka and cokes.

Quite possibly. But the whole "I'm a happy drunk when I have x" and "x makes me angry" when talking about differnt spirits has been proven to be a placebo effect in scientific studies.

Scientifically, thats ********. You used the word 'scientifically' without referencing any supporting evidence, and disputed his anecdotal evidence which is scientifically true from his perspective.

All in all, yours was a very unsciency post. Please dont use the word science unscientifically. It offends Einstein. Thats why his hair is always so crazy in the pictures. Because of you. *Shakes angry fist*

Not posting a source doesn't negate that his statement was false. ;)

Also, never underestimate the power of the placebo. It's done wonderful things.

I'll see if I can find a link when I'm not on a phone with EE's ****** mobile "broadband".

I stick to bottles of lager when I'm out and red wine on the odd occasion that I have a drink when I'm in the house. That way I know what I'm drinking and how much /how fast I can drink so can control how intoxicated I become.

I've found that if i'm going out, if i have a beer in the afternoon, (say 3pmish) it primes me for a heavy drink later in the evening, and i can drink 8 or more pints and not feel out of control, but a happy merry. On other occasions, i can finish work at 9pm, drink 3 pints in quick succession after not eating properly and feel rather drunk!

I'm not a big drinker but when i do I just go a bit silly then flake out. I have found lager over the years to cause more hangovers than it once did..

However, I accept that i'm not a drinker and know when enough is enough. I don't bother trying to keep up with some of the drinkers i know as it's pointless.

Can still sink 5-6 pints in an evening and happily merry at the end of the session.

Knees ache in the morning, but no hanger overs.

Blended whiskey & tequila get me fighting drunk in short order which is why I haven't touched either in many years.

My worst hangovers have been caused by champagne (the good stuff seems worse for this) and cheap red wine. Go figure.

I usually go from Merry direct to chundering, no middle ground. I don't get silly when im drunk, i don't forget or slur. If i feel ropey, i chill out for a bit with soft drinks and maybe pick it up again later on. Don't really have hangovers either, feel fine the morning after.

My brother is a lot smaller build than me. He gets stupidly ****ed. He doesn't remember how he got home, he can barely string a sentence together, falls over everywhere and he just doesn't stop. He will come back barely able to walk and have a glass of wine or something.

Eat before you go out. Drunken kebabs etc will help you not be so rough in the morning, but probably won't help with the toilet situation. Don't drink pints all night, they just bloat you and make you feel all urgh. Get on the spirits. Have a glass of water or juice (not coke etc) between every few drinks and a good pint or two of water or Vimto before bed. Yes, you'll wee for England all night long, but it helps stop the hangover!

Water really does help, half my hangover is dehydration so a pint of water before bed is key.

I'm quite lucky, I'm rarely ever sick & can go from merry/happy drunk without getting to the blotto stage. Sickness comes slowly as I approach it so I can just slow down for an hour odd & continue later if I want.

Could handle large amounts with ease but did not mix and stayed on my feet until I got home. Don't worry about hangovers any more as I've gave up drinking a while ago.

I've always thought it's wise to stay upright, I don't like being a burden to others so never let myself get drunk enough to need looking after.

Whenever you go on a night out, there always seems to be 'that one guy' who is a liability to the group....
