In about 3 weeks our office will be refurbished and on our return there is supposed to be proper hot desking and a clear desk policy. I'm not so keen on the idea but I'll go along with it providing I get a decent sized locker.

The main thing I despise about hot desking is that people sometimes use the desk I regularly sit at and get their grubby fingers all over my nice, clean mouse and keyboard. Does this bother anyone else?

I'm tempted to treat myself to a decent mouse, keyboard and mousepad for work but only if I can guarantee other people don't gunk them all up with bits of crisps and biscuit crumbs.

Has anyone else treated themselves to a nice mouse/keyboard for work which you lock away everyday?

Yes to the mouse/keyboard but no hotdesking here so they don't need to get locked away. Seems worth doing if your coworkers are as disgusting as you seem to suggest!

My work mouse is an old MX500 of mine. Far better than the cheap Microsoft ones they tend to roll out for everyone else :p. My keyboard's a work supplied Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. Watching people try and use it is great, everyone gets confused :D.

Like AJK I don't lock it away either though.

MX518 here - can't beat the Logitech! And I use a cheapy wireless keyboard, but it's so nice to be able to shift it round the desk or out the way easily without faffing with wires.

We have hotdesking here at work but we have our own laptops/keyboard/mouse. Do you have a laptop or does the office have a PC at every desk?

Own laptop but standard monitors, keyboards and mice at every desk.

I used to keep my old MX518 at my desk but I got fed up with finding other people's greasy finger marks all over it when I returned a day or so later. Part of the problem is there isn't many 'breakout' areas, so people have to eat at their desks. I'm guilty of this but at least when I do it I know it's MY dirt, not someone else's :p

Ducky Zero Brown Cherry Mechanical Keyboard and Razer Death Adder 2013 Mouse at both home AND work.

Love to have that consistent feel.

No hot desking luckily!

I use a left handed MX610 at work which is my own mouse. Only brought it in because it wasn't being used at home. No hotdesking or worrying about anyone else using it here though (Most people would probably struggle to use it anyway, plus I have a conventional mouse on the right side of my keyboard as well).

I've never heard of hotdesking in any working envornoment!

I've worked in a number of offices and call centres over the years, every one gets assigned a desk and it doesnt change.

I had to google hotdesking . Sounds orrible.

If I worked for someone and had to hotdesk I'd definitly buy my own keyboard/ mouse. Think of all those people who don't wash their hands :(.

The majority of people in our company don'k work at the office or at least every day so makes sense to not have a huge office that is always empty. The only hardware people share are monitors. Peripherals are all paid for by the company. People shouldn't share keyboard and mice.

Lol, they buzz words are "agile working" at the moment = hotdesking.
Our industry (interior design and fitout) is prevalent with it.
We have about 10 hotdesking stations with monitors and docking stations, but most lappy users have their own wireless mice and tend to use the laptop keyboard. Some do have keyboards as well but no one has their own kit.
I don't mind if they do, but i'll not be supporting their own kit if/when it gets damaged in the line of duty.
